Introduction
This is the story of three siblings living in the first quarter of the 20th century: The King of the United Kingdom, the German Empress, and the Tsarina of Russia.
These three people were not siblings, you say? In the timeline you and I live in, that would be true. But in this alternate history, started in the full-length novel, Victoria II, the European royal family tree looks very different. And all because Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, husband of Queen Victoria I, protected his wife from an assassins bullet at the cost of his own life in 1842. This left her with an only child, their daughter, Vicky.
Now, 72 years later, the thread of history has been altered into a new braid, an unrecognizable twine binding The Children of Victoria II to their unexplored destinies.

Dearest Lulu,
The past 3 days have been quite the whirlwind of telegrams, but I think its all sorted now. Fritzi and I are in complete agreement that neither of our kingdoms have any business getting involved with Austrias problems. We have both implored Nicky to stay out of it too, but hes convinced he is bound by treaty to those Serbians. And now he is committed by blood, as I have been informed the first shots of this war have been fired between Austrian and Russian soldiers...in Budapest of all places!
Thank God! the French and Italians have agreed to stay out of it was well. But of course the French arent going anywhere without Big Brother Britain there to hold their hand. I only hope Italy can stay out, what with them being so close to the conflict. It wouldnt take much for the fighting to enter their territory. But Victor Emanuel does not want to fight, so that will go a long way to keeping the cooler heads there.
It is all quite mad. But then so is the murder of the Archduke in Sarajevo which sparked all of this. It is a real shame. I had so much hope for him to pull Austro-Hungary into this century, something old Franz Joseph is just not capable of.
Its even more a shame they couldnt stop there but also shot his charming wife, those dogs! She wasnt even equal, she had no role in the political situation whatsoever. Such a loss. She was so gracious when they visited London a few years ago, you would never know she was not born to a royal house. Theres another area, maintaining such strict rules about equal birth, where Franz Joseph lives too much in the past.
But then, maybe so does Fritzi? Have they settled the matter of Ockies fiance? So what that her father is a Count and not a King? When I met them at Viktoria Luises wedding, she fit in just as well as any princess would, and maybe a mite better than Alexandra has, if Im being perfectly honest. The point is she makes the boy happy. Is that not good enough? If Papa was good enough for Mama, then Ina-Maria should be good enough for Ockie. Hes not the heir or anything, so let him be happy!
In happier news, London has grown hot sooner than usual this year. Thankfully, we seem to have our end of the continent settled so I can escape to Windsor for a few weeks. Might do a little fishing while Im there.
My love to the kids and give an extra kiss to those grandbabies from their Grossonkel Wils!
