Introduction
D O YOU LONG to know Christ in a way that transforms the way you think and the way you live?
I do.
So did the early disciples. As they followed Jesus, they came to know him. That relationship shaped their faith. It changed them. Lets consider for a moment that we are walking with him in the three-plus years he was here on earth.
Lets sit with him. Lets listen to his words. Lets watch as Jesus interacts with his friends and those who resist his love. Lets watch as he reaches out to people, even those who rebuff him. What would it be like to crowd in close to hear him speak and learn from him?
My prayer for this Come With Me Devotional is that you will walk with him as if youve never heard about him. My prayer is that youll discover Jesus all over again.
As you read through the book of Luke, and walk with Jesus, ask these questions:
Jesus, what are you saying?
Are these words for me?
What does your example teach me?
How do I live this in my real life?
I took this personal journey nearly three years ago. I wasnt in a crisis of faith, or maybe I was. I wasnt trying to write a book. I was asking Jesus to rewrite his story on my heart. I love ministry, but somehow faith and ministry became entangled and I wanted to go back to that moment when I first encountered Jesus. When I didnt really know anything about him, or his Word.
You see, thats how the original disciples began. They had no idea what saying yes to Jesus invitation meant. They found out as they walked with him.
Something beautiful took place as I stepped into the book of Luke and asked the questions for myself. Let me repeat those questions. Theyre important.
Jesus, what are you saying?
Are these words for me?
What does your example teach me?
How do I live this in my real life?
There were moments I sat with my open Bible and wept, totally lost in the beauty of what I heard or witnessed. There were times I was smack in the middle of real life, and Id hear his words.
Not just hear them, but know where he was leading meif only I would follow.
This is not a devotion. Its a journey of rediscovery.
Lets begin in Luke 4 as Jesus begins his public ministry. Take a seat on a craggy rock in the bleak wilderness as our Savior is led into the wilderness by the Spirit. Prepare to witness an intense battle with a real enemy as our Savior poises to rescue you and me.

Filled
Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.
L U K E 4:12 N L T
T H E E N E M Y C I R C L E S around Jesus. He isnt after just the person, but the position of Messiah. Hes poised to wage a colossal battle. Hes poised to lead Jesus away from his mission.
Come With Me
I have already won the battle. You are not battling for victory, but from a place of victory.
Jesus brims with power. He walked into the wilderness filled, his Source his heavenly Father. Though this battle will last for forty long days, Jesus carries truth as his weapon and faith as his shield.
He already sees the enemy as defeated, his plans in disarray.
Lets not be surprised when the tempter seeks to distract us. Those feelings are real, but so is the power that lives on the inside.
Not only does Jesus understand our conflict, but the Holy Spirit rattles temptation with truth and strength. That battle we face isnt merely a person or a circumstance, but a move to distract us from our purpose.
We stand equipped, for no temptation is greater than our God.

Hungry
The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.
L U K E 4:3 N I V
J E S U S S T O M A C H caves in with hunger. He doesnt have to be in the wilderness. With one word, the stones at Jesus feet could be turned to bread, but he stands firm.
The adversary taunts Jesus.
You dont have to be hungry. Take things into your own hands.
Come With Me
When tempted, remind the enemyand yourselfthat you are incredibly loved and made for more.
Jesus faces the enemy head-on, declaring that obedience to his Father is greater than satisfying a right-now hunger.
He refuses to be deceived by one who cares less about him and more about the destruction of his soul.
We have all heard that voice of enticement. It calls us to compromise or fulfill an instant longing that takes us from the will of God.
It demands that we take things into our own hands and strip them from Gods.
We are not alone in this battle. Our heavenly Father is aware of our needs, far beyond the right now. He will help us overcome temptation to walk into our destiny. Our Father promises to lift us above temporary desires to discover lasting transformation.
