Introduction

Prayer changes things.

There are times Ive believed that with my whole heart. There are moments where I have forgotten the power of prayer. Perhaps this is the area where I was changed the most in my Come With Me journey.

I love talking with God. I whisper words of gratitude throughout the day. I pray for my needs and for the needs of others. Prayer is comforting. Its relational. Its impactful on a personal level.

Its more than that.

Its powerful.

Walking with Jesus is walking in prayer.

I had almost forgotten the truth that prayer transforms. It stirs the heavens on the behalf of humanity. Its a cry for help. Its an acknowledgment of a sovereign, intimate God who cares about the affairs of the world. Its joining hands with other believers youve never met, but believers with whom you will one day see the results of your cojoined prayers in eternity.

Prayer is acceptable, though society tries to put limitations on it. Its revolutionary. Prayer ignites behind-the-scenes warfare in the heavenlies, and it strikes faith in us.

I still whisper words of prayer throughout my day.

I still pray for my needs and for the needs of others.

Now, however, I see prayer as a world-changing part of my faithwhether that is in my own home, across the street, in my relationships, or out in my world.

First, it begins in each of us.

For the next thirty-one days, just sit with him. Ive shared a prayer and a quote from Come With Me . Read the Scripture, and then talk to God one-to-one. You never know where hell lead you.

Suzie

1
Invitation

Every part of our faith is impactfulthe welcoming places, the comforting places, and the more challenging places where we move from our will to his.

Come With Me page 20

Jesus, you ask me to come with you. I dont know exactly where you are taking me, but I surrender to your invitation.

Lead me to the road you want me to take.

Change my heart and fire up my faith.

Demolish the barriers Ive set up that keep me stuck.

There are miracles that you desire to do in me, and maybe even through me. I surrender to that too. I give you open access to my heart, my thoughts, and my life. I sound brave, but Im quaking inside. But how can I not follow you where you lead?

After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. Follow me, Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.

Luke 5:2728 NIV

2
Align My Will

How many times have I battled what God is speaking into my heart, when hes trying to give me my greatest opportunity?

Come With Me page 28

Lord, I know how to make my unspiritual heart look spiritual on the surface. I say that Ill pray about it, while its really my delay to saying yes to you. All the while, my real prayer is that someone else will step forward, perhaps someone more confident or better equipped.

The ability to seek counsel is a beautiful gift, but my deepest prayer is that you align my will with yours. Let your Word and the whisper of the Holy Spirit be my greatest guidance. If it is you who is leading me out of my comfort zone, may my response be yes from the very beginning.

So yes, Lord.

Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.

Luke 5:4 NLT

3
One More Time

This isnt a call to blindly thrust out on your own, but rather to listen closely to the Holy Spirit that lives within you and to take the next step.

Come With Me page 34

Savior, I hear you telling me to try one more time. It doesnt make sense, because Ive tried over and over again. The world tells me that if I do the same thing and receive the same results, that its time to move on. Yet I hear you loud and clear.

Believe one more time.

Obey one more time.

Wait just a little longer.

Go a little deeper.

Hold a little tighter to my faith and to you.

I trust that you know something I dont.

You see below the water line, and you are asking me to push out in faith one more time, so here I am pushing out, knowing that you are waiting for me in the deep.

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

4
Home

Home isnt a place, but a connection with Christ to the point that we know whose we are.

Come With Me page 41

Lord, when you ask me to follow you, I am tempted to stay where I am. Even if I dont like it, its familiar. Its comfortable. Theres not a lot required of me, and I dont have to stretch and grow.

Its not home, though, Jesus.

Its where Ive landed and made a nest. But you desire that I fly. You ask that I live free and unencumbered. You invite me to explore new territory in my relationship with youto find my place in your love and your plan.

You lead me home to discover whose I am.

I spread my wings, knowing that I might dip and flutter, but youll show me the way.

And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:19 ESV

5
Only You

Being chosen (and accepting that gift) leads to leaving, which leads you home. Not to a place or a job or a person, but into confidence that wherever you are and whatever season you are in, you are his.
