The following people have contributed to the compilation of this quiz book, which took us over twelve months to put together. For all their time, help and continued interest, we are very grateful and offer them our thanks. Thanks to all the principals, teachers and children, from the following schools, who contributed questions: Aghina, Ballinora, Clogheen/Kerry Pike, Cloghroe and Rylane. Thanks to Dan ODonovan who provided quiz questions each year for the NPC Challenge Quiz from which our idea of an Irish quiz book was conceived; to Ann Rea for arranging all the questions into rounds and who, together with Ann ORegan and Lorraine Crossan, typed up the various drafts; to Marty Mainerich who revised some of the original questions for this new edition; and lastly, to all the members of NPC-P Cork West who proofread all the draft submissions.
INTRODUCTION
The Whiz Quiz Book is a product of partnership in education at its best. Not only were parents and teachers involved in researching this work but the most important partners of all, i.e., the children, had a significant input, in terms of content and design.

The book is a response to a widespread demand among parents and teachers for lists of questions, particularly in the lead up to National Parents Councils popular annual quiz, the NPC-Challenge. The questions are tailored to the abilities of children in primary, or in the early years of second level schools. They are formatted into a series of mini competitions which can provide competitive, educative entertainment in the family home, the classroom or wherever groups of friends may meet. Cork West have several years of experience as quiz organisers and that experience is reflected in this very excellent publication. CON LYNCH NATIONAL VICE-CHAIRMAN, NPC-P
