The Other Room at Porters is Cardiffs pub theatre. It was founded by Artistic Director Kate Wasserberg and Executive Director Bizzy Day in response to the exciting opportunity to develop an audience for drama in the heart of Cardiff. An intense, purpose-built space with 47 seats, The Other Room produces great modern plays and new work by and with Welsh, Wales-based and Wales-trained artists. The Other Room has fast established a reputation for quality and daring drama, won Fringe Theatre of the Year at the 2016, Stage Awards, and a plethora of accolades at The Wales Theatre Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Violet Burns Playwriting Award
This production wouldnt have been possible if it wasnt for the Violet Burns Playwright Award. The Award is committed to discovering, nurturing and producing Wales-based, female playwrights and is a steadfast commitment to bringing to the fore unheard voices from across Wales, championing women in theatre to achieve their creative potential.
The Award has been made possible through the generous support of Violets daughter Hayley, who has created it in memory of her mother.
Violet Burns was born into a working-class family in 1946. Raised in a two-bedroom council house in a small fishing village on the east coast of Scotland, there were insufficient finances available to support the family and she had to leave school early to take up a job in the local Spar. Given her background and the limited opportunities she had been given, she never believed herself capable nor creative, and yet was a secret writer and poet. She never returned to her education despite having a keen interest in both medicine and writing. Violet sadly passed away on 10 January 2017 following a battle with lung cancer.

Nodyn/Note
Roeddwn i eisiau cynnwys nodyn i atgoffa chi darllenwr, fedrwch chi neud unrhywbeth rydych chi ishe, gan cynnwys ysgrifennu ddrama i lwyfan.
Mae pob gair yn y llyfr bach yma, yn gynnyrch o ddal-ati, lwc, a faint mor hael mae pobol wedi bod efoi amser ai caredigrwydd.
Roedd yr ods wedi eu pentyrrun fy erbyn i, i byth ysgrifennu drama heb sn am cael e ei chyhoeddi.
Menyw. Dosbarth gweithiol. Cweer. Cymraeg ond ddim yn digon Cymreig i rhai. Hynod o fucking dyslecsig. Fedrai mynd ymlaen
Ond os gallai wneud, gall unrhyw un.
Felly beth ydych chi'n aros am?! Os ydych chi'n grac, yn union fel roeddwn i, codwch blydi pen, a wnewch rywbeth amdanor peth a plis YSGRIFENNWCH!
Mae'r byd yn aros i glywed eich straeon hefyd.
I wanted to include a note to remind you dear reader, that if you so wish you can do anything your heart desires, including write a play.
Every word you read in this little book, is a product of stickwith-it-ness, luck and how generous others have been with their time and kindness.
The odds were stacked against me to ever write a play let alone get it published.
Woman Working class. Queer. Welsh but not Welsh enough for some. Dyslexic as fuck. I could go on..
But if I can do it, anybody can.
So what are you waiting for?! If youre angry, just like I was, pick up a god damn pen, do something about it and please WRITE!
The world is waiting to hear your stories too.
