Acknowledgments
As it is for any book, there is an army of people responsible. Sports Guys is no exception.
It begins, I suppose, with the Sports Guys themselves. They made themselves available constantly... at home, at the office, at the spur of a moment. They tolerated probing and poking. Besides stories, they also produced lots of splendid photos.
Jim Chappell was a prince, supplying a rich environment at his dazzling sports restaurant. And not only does he make a mean burger, he also made some astonishing photos available.
Bob Sprenger lent some of his more memorable pictures. Thanks to editor Mark Zieman and librarian Derrick Donovan of The Kansas City Star for allowing me to poke through clips and files. Rhonda Chriss Lokeman, The Star op-ed page editor, was an early inspiration with tales of newspaper days past. And The Star's engaging outdoor editor, Brent Frazee, whose fishing boat turned out to be a great sounding board. Special thanks to Jim Monteleone of Fox 4 News.
Then there were people like Hank Stram, George Brett, Tom Watson, George Toma, Preston Williams, Merle Harmon, Lamar Hunt, Bob Wormington, Phil Jones, Fat Boy and Bob Bowen, among others, who were so willing and excited to talk about their friends, the Sports Guys.
You are reading about the Sports Guys because of the enthusiastic acceptance of the project from Bob Snodgrass, Nelson Elliott, Darcie Kidson and Michelle Zwickle-Washington of the Addax Publishing Group.
And finally, my family, whose support on this endeavor was, as always, complete and unconditional.

Introduction
It has been my good fortune
By Lamar Hunt
How does one introduce five distinct, unique individuals as Bill Grigsby, Joe McGuff, Len Dawson, Don Fortune and Harold Ensley? Each one needs no introduction at all. They are all great "people persons" and each one meets the public in his own special way.
It has been my good fortune to have known each of these five Sports Guys throughout much of the past 37 wonderful years of Kansas City Chiefs football in Mid-America. It is my sincere pleasure to introduce each individually now.
The Storyteller
Now, Bill Grigsby is a unique person.
