Praise for ENTERING THE CASTLE
Caroline Mysss brilliant, brave, and profoundly moving book takes us deep into the burning heart of Teresa of vilas vision of divine consciousness. Seekers on all parts will find here mature wisdom and deep sacred passion expressed with thrilling direct- ness and a fierce psychological precision worthy of Teresa herself.
Andrew Harvey, author of The Essential Mystics
With a kind of spiritual X-ray vision, Caroline Myss has penetrated the underlying structure of Teresa of vilas vision of the souls journey home to the divine. And, with abundant generosity of spirit, she shares that map in clear and relevant language in Entering the Castle . With this book, Caroline invites us to step beyond the feel-good spirituality of recent decades and build a soul with stamina, a soul willing to be annihilated by love.
Mirabai Starr, author of a new translation of Dark Night of the Soul by John of the Cross and The Interior Castle and The Book of My Life by Teresa of vila
Entering the Castle is... based on St. Teresas seven interior mansions, which are explained and elaborated here... so beautifully, clearly, compassionately, lightheartedly, wondrously... [as] seven steps... to your own deepest self or soul. Teresa became not only a spiritual woman who had written a brilliant practice manual, but a saint who saved Carolines life, showed her her soul, awakened her heart, and set her on the never-ending... timelessly fulfilled road of practice. I just know that Teresa would say amen to this luminous book as the fruit of her calling to you, a calling to all of us to be mystics without monasteries in a world sorely in need of a touch of the divine... the true self in each and every one of us.
From the foreword by Ken Wilber, author of A Brief History of Everything and Integral Spirituality

THE COMPELLING POWER OF TERESA OF VILA
An Interview with Caroline Myss
Conducted by Andrew Harvey
Introduction
All of Caroline Mysss work is characterized by a forensic clarity and pioneering courage and brilliance. In Entering the Castle, Caroline enters new territorymaking the human divine through mystic devotion, passion, rigor, and illumination. Her guide to this most demanding, complex field is the great Catholic mystic, Teresa of vila; Caroline does a near-miraculous job of helping the modern reader imagine and enter the seven mansions of Teresas Interior Castle of the soul. In Carolines hands, perhaps the greatest of all Christian mystical classics is reinvented and reimagined for contemporary seekers of all kinds and paths.
Caroline and I sat together on a luminous day in January 2007, in her dining room in Oak Park, Illinois, and, as the winter sun danced around us, embarked on the wild, rich, exploratory conversation that follows. I pray that all of you who read this will share the holy joy that flowed between us. May it bring you what Teresa of vila called the inspiration of the loving soul. May it take you into your own interior castle and invite you to become mystics without monasteries and Sacred Activistsbeings who fuse sacred wisdom and passion with clear, wise radical action, in an endangered world. In St. Teresas words:
The Divine has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours,
Yours are the eyes through which the Divine compassion is to look out to the world; Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good; Yours are the hands with which he is to bless men now.
A NDREW H ARVEY:
Why at this moment in your career did you choose to write a book about a sixteenth-century nun and her map of the mystical path?
C AROLINE M YSS:
When I was writing Invisible Acts of Power, I was absolutely broken wide open. I took a look at the nature of service and why people were drawn to be of service after surviving a crisis. Somehow, a resurrection force, like a primal light from the soul, is ignited in people who undergo a life crisis, such as loss or disease. This light or grace activates personal transformations and can lead to a fundamental need to be of service. These people no longer wanted to take from life; they wanted to give to life. That fascinated me. Something had shifted their interior compass. A passion lying dormant before was awakened in them, and gave them a new appetite for life. This new interior alchemy was formed, and they faced gratitude for their own survival, an appreciation for the simple things in life, and a genuine awareness that the meaning and purpose they were searching for in life were to be found in improving the lives of others.
