Although I had long known about the work of Alberto Villoldo professionally and heard good things about him from trusted colleagues, I had never heard him speak nor read any of his books until the spring of 2016. I was working out on a treadmill in a hotel in Toronto, listening to his Hay House World Summit interview in which he shared his experience of becoming deathly ill from many different parasites that had invaded his liver, lungs, and brain. As I listened to him talk about the process of literally growing a new body, I was transfixed. I knew instantly that I wanted to learn from him. Here was the real deal: a man who had walked through fire and remained unscathed.

Of course, Id heard before of spontaneous remission, and Id even had a number of patients who experienced this sudden, unexpected healing of various diseases. But never before had I heard anyone describe the process of going to the underworldquite literally facing ones mortality and imminent deathand then coming back out with a precise road map for this healing journey, complete with scientific precision, understanding, and also spiritual illumination.
