Preface
Some of the concepts in this book may be hard to accept. I am fully aware of this because I am a skeptic myself. But my skepticism, I like to think, is positive rather than negative. I am willing to maintain an open mindeven, in fact, do some investigating.
When I first heard of communication with animals I thought it might be possiblebut only by a gifted mystic. As I began to research this book I heard over and over that anyone is potentially able to do it, anyone who is willing to work at it and suspend disbelief.
Some years ago I began a series of books on ghosts and hauntings. By the time I had investigated a few dozen cases, I was almost certain that there are ghoststhe spirits of people who have made the transition we call deathand that there are other dimensions all around us, perhaps even in us, that do not ordinarily register on our limited five senses, but are there nevertheless and can be tapped into.
I sometimes feel that the most meaningful praise I ever received for these endeavors came from a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who was visiting the home of friends of mine. My friends had some of my ghost books on their shelves, and the professor mentioned that he had one of my books. His hosts commented that they

were surprised that an MIT professor would be reading such far-out material. He replied, "That guy's books are all through MIT. He writes books about ghosts for people who don't believe in ghosts."
I presume he meant that I beat the bushes for witnesses, speak with people who seem to be provably psychicas far as such things can be provedand build as extensive a collection of pertinent information as possible.
