The presence of strange winged beings is probably as old as the human imagination. In the late Summer of 2011, reports of Mothman-like flying humanoids began to surface in the city of Chicago. After three brief sightings, there were no further accounts. Then unexpectedly in early 2017, a smattering of encounters emerged from different locations throughout the Chicago metro area; until the number reached near fifty sightings before the end of the Summer. Why Chicago? Why now? This book will examine the witness accounts and the investigators thought processes, as these incidents were brought to our attention. The sightings continue but we are determined to find the truth.

Introduction

As I begin writing the narrative of the Chicago Phantom saga, I have just documented the 40 th witness sighting since late March 2017. The questions about this winged being still exist 5 months after the initial report. What is it? Where is it coming from? Why now? Is there a reason why the sightings are occurring in the general Chicago metro area?

This current group of winged humanoid sightings is probably the largest since the Mothman encounters in the vicinity of Point Pleasant, WV during 1966-67. Those sightings have become legendary, namely because the Mothman was seen as a harbinger of catastrophe, after the collapse of the Silver Bridge on the evening of December 15, 1967. The bridge spanned the Ohio River between Point Pleasant, WV and Gallipolis, Ohio and the disaster took the lives of 46 people.

The fact that most people have referred to the subjects of these sightings in Chicago as a Mothman is understandable. As with all winged humanoid sightings and encounters that occurred before and after the Mothman of Point Pleasant events, there may be a chance that these variously described beings could be related in some way or another. Are these winged humanoids the progeny of the Mothman?

On June 7, 2017, M.J. Banias wrote an article at Mysterious Universe titled Chicagos Current Mothman Flap; A Warning, Says Expert. In his article Banias described the ongoing wave of Mothman-type sightings in and around the city. The article quoted me:

There are many opinions as to why these sightings are occurring, including a general feeling that unfortunate events may be in the citys future. () At this point, I feel that this being may be attempting to distinguish a connection between locales within the city and future events. The witnesses have been very steadfast with what they have seen, and refuse to embellish on their initial descriptions. Each witness has had a feeling of dread and foreboding, which I believe translates into a warning of some type.

I somewhat regret making that speculative statement so early in the investigation. Eventually the quote may prove to be true, but I want to let the facts and evidence determine what these winged humanoids really are.

It is my opinion that the good people of Point Pleasant were so shocked and distraught over the deaths that they wanted to find something to blame for the collapse. Thus we have the theory that the Mothman was a portent of destruction. Unfortunately, a large number of Chicagoans now fear that they are in line for a similar fate.

The presence of unknown winged beings is probably as old as the human imagination; but after reading and listening to hundreds of eyewitness accounts over the past four decades, I have concluded that these beings are much more than fantasy.

This book will examine the witness accounts and the investigators thought processes, as these incidents were brought to our attention. There is reasonable expectation that several more reports will come to light while this narrative is being written. Its a work in progress but were determined to find the truth.

A Bit of History

Flying humanoid sightings and encounters are not a new occurrence in the Chicago metro area. A few reports have been forwarded to me in the past, even though I have no way of knowing if those incidents are related to the current group of sightings.

The following account is as chilling as I have ever read in reference to a flying humanoid encounter. The witnesses were of Navajo descent, who had moved to Chicago a year or so before this incident occurred. The writer was an acquaintance of the family:

I live in Chicago, and my friends mom told him about this creature. Well, he told me that in 2005, his mom and dad were driving in the city and that they noticed a giant bat-like creature following them at high speed. Obviously they didn't believe their eyes at what they saw, but luckily they sped up the car and got far away from the creature. His father was so shocked, that he just about smashed the car into a tree.

They later stopped the car and discussed about what that thing was. While they were talking they once again noticed the creature flying towards them. His father started the car, but the creature was closely upon them. Then without any hesitation, it smashed itself into the windshield. It was like it didn't see the window. Then it broke the glass on the front passenger side door. My friend's mom was sitting there while it tried to put its claws into her arm. His dad had a glass bottle which he cracked into the creature's head. It fell on the ground and they drove away as fast as they could.

They assumed that they had gotten rid of the creature. When they arrived home, it was apparent that my friend's mom was injured. After helping his wife out of the car, his dad went back to close the car door. Then suddenly, the creature again appeared at a tremendous speed and attacked his mom. It attempted to grab her and fly away. But quickly, his dad beat the creature with a stone. It eventually took off and disappeared into the dark sky.

When the creature tried to take his mom away, she got a closer look at it. After all this happened and her being injured, she told her husband that it's a kind of extinct creature. It had long sharp nails, a very scary face, glowing eyes and sharp teeth. His mother looked on internet to see what the creature was. They were only thinking about one creature; a Skinwalker, because they were familiar with that creature because of their culture. Its a witch that can transform into a half animal/half human. After a lot of research, they eventually discovered that the creature closely resembled only one being. The Mothman.

Since then, they always avoid dark places and those areas where other people don't frequent. They still believe that the creature will return and attack them.

After I heard about the incident from my friend, I thought he was lying; but when I heard this story from his mom, I now believe it occurred. Even if this winged creature exists, I will not truly believe it until I see it with my own eyes.
