"Let laurels, drench'd in pure Parnassian dews,
Reward his mem'ry, dear to ev'ry muse,
Who, with a courage of unshaken root,
In honour's field advancing his firm foot,
Plants it upon the line that justice draws,
And will prevail or perish in her cause.
'Tis to the virtues of such men, man owes
His portion in the good that Heav'n bestows.
And when recording history displays
Feats of renown, though wrought in ancient days;
Tells of a few stout hearts, that fought and died,
Where duty plac'd them, at their country's side;
The man that is not mov'd with what he reads,
That takes not fire at their heroic deeds,
Unworthy of the blessings of the brave,
Is base in kind, and born to be a slave."
Cowper.

Boy Soldiers of the Confederacy was covered in dust when found on an old
bookshelf. Many years had evidently passed since its last reading. Opening
the book revealed the old Confederate bill on this page, probably used as a
book marker. Obviously, the bill reveals the wear of time, being torn and tattered,
and is symbolic of the remaining thread for the call of Southern Independence.

Foreword
The moral fiber which bound the South together was very deeply entrenched within the boy soldiers. Account after account reveals the distinguishing acts of grandeur performed on the battlefield by the so called "Boy Soldiers." These acts of heroism were not planned acts of warfare but simply spontaneous reactions to the call of duty. Boys have impulsive reactions in contrast to the planned actions of mature men. Without those spontaneous acts, many of the skirmishes, battles and engagements would probably have been lost to the Union. Many incidents revealed the disciplined nature of these young boys when their ranks were broken by enemy fire. Ranks were closed to fill the void of their fallen comrade and the advancement proceeded. These young men never faltered during fire, but upon some occasions marched backwards while firing at the enemy and seeking a greater military position. Youth simply reacted to the call of their mother, the Southland. The Southland needed all of her sons to defend the Southern way of life. Northern aggression from Radical Republicans, malcontents, mercenaries and marauders forced the youth to defend their way of life. Multitudes of Europeans and other immigrants migrated to the aid of the Union in promise of new found wealth and individual recognition. No northern homes were being burned, farms destroyed, pillaged, financial wealth stolen or their female population exploited. Mothers and sisters of the boy youth of the South were insulted, raped and desecrated by those northern aggressors.
