Brief Contents
Preface

The world has changed since the previous version of this book came out. That is not news. The tragedy of the Covid-19 virus continues and shows little signs of abating. Nearly nine years have passed since the previous version of this text was published by a different house. I am happy to be working with SAGE in bringing out this revised edition. When I first began to teach the history course over 30 years ago I used a first edition text with a modest page count. Over the years that text grew fatter until it nearly doubled the number of pages of its first edition.
