Preface:
Will You Marry Me?
Getting engaged is a big deal. It means that you have finally made the ultimate decision to commit to one person for the rest of your life. After popping the question, many young men are surprised to discover that their girlfriends have been dreaming of this moment for as long as they can remember. So, prospective grooms, dont stress too much, but take the time to plan a proposal that is unique and appropriate to your relationship, one that will show your intended that you care enough to create a memorable proposal. Youll be surprised how many times you will be asked to tell the story of how you proposed. And if your story is truly memorable, it will become a family folk tale that you will share with others for years to come. Im happy to share my own story to get you in the mood and perhaps inspire you, too.
My Storybook Proposal
Our first kiss was at the Rodin Sculpture Garden, the most romantic spot on our college campus at Stanford University. Less than three years later, on a spring break vacation, Adam and I visited the Rodin Sculpture Garden in Paris. Having studied art history in college, I was thrilled to be with my boyfriend in this most perfect setting. After a romantic stroll through the garden, we sat down on a park bench for a friendly game of Scrabble. (We are Scrabble buffs, and our Travel Scrabble game accompanies us everywhere!) As the game progressed, Adam managed to filch some tiles from the bag, and he placed them on the board. When he put down the word MARRY, I giggled nervously, finding it odd that he should make such a strategically bad move and give me a chance for a triple word score.
