Acknowledgments
Where to begin? First, I want to thank my husband John and our children Sarah and Alexander. Through sun, rain, hail, and high water, they proved to be intrepid and resourceful, offering suggestions, feedback, and spirited criticism.
Next, Id like to offer collective thanks to the many friendly faces I encountered on trails and at campsites who willingly contributed valuable tips on equipment and pointers on comfortable camping spots. Similarly, I want to extend appreciation to generous friends who shared recollections of their outdoor adventures. I especially want to thank Judith Barbosa, a talented photographer who allowed me to create a campsite (more like a tent city) on her property to field test some of the gear.
