Preface
Many people wish to read through the Bible but find it difficult to do so. This plan was born out of years of Bible study and teaching.
As much as possible in this plan, the text is read in the order of the Bible story. Parallel historical accounts are grouped together. The prophets, the epistles, and many of the psalms are read in their historical contexts.
I hope this will make the biblical narrative come alive and make reading through the Bible a joyful and instructive experience. Here are several key features of this Bible-reading plan:
The Bible is divided into 365 readings, one for each day of the year. The reader can begin at any time of the year and may change the order as desired.
This plan can be used with any version or translation of the Scriptures.
The days have about the same length of total readings.
For each day a prayer and a proverb or other choice saying are supplied, matched to the readings.
Parallel historical texts in both Old and New Testaments are listed together.
As nearly as possible, prophetic writings are paired with their historical contexts. A few are used with New Testament texts.
Page 8
Some psalms are also paired with their historical contexts, whereas others are related to the theme of the day's reading.
Most New Testament epistles are read in their historical contexts, but some are used as parallel readings with Old Testament texts (thus Hebrews with Leviticus).
Undated material is sometimes grouped together or added to other readings according to subject matter.
