ONE FACE
At a certain point in the development of a meaningful career, it is helpful to set aside everything but absolute and unvarnished truth as one considers how the world works. In a disarming and completely authentic way, Sarah McDugal walks through this charming book at your side, with nothing but your best interests at heart. She is your friend, your confidant and your dependable adviser.
Andrew Benton, President & CEO, Pepperdine University
In One Face, Sarah elaborates with several wonderful examples the importance of being truthful to ones own conscience; and how that understanding in turn helps in building and improving ones personal and professional relationships.

FOREWORD
One Face is an inquiry into the values and ethics driving our businesses and our personal lives, and a challenge to insure consistency between the two. Through personal reflections and interviews with business leaders around the globe, the case for establishing a values-driven corporate culture is made businesses are more reliable and consistent, brands are uncompromised, and the stress of having inconsistent values is alleviated.
Each reader of this book must ask themselves the question: Am I going to live my life and run my business with a fractured moral compass, constantly adjusting my values to meet the situation or am I going to adhere to my underlying value system and live, work and play authentically?
The author correctly observes: In personal life, in public leadership and in corporate identity and brand experience it is absolutely vital to choose a set of core values, clearly articulate them and then consistently and intentionally implement them across all platforms.
I encourage those who read this book to reflect internally and externally to determine if there are any inconsistencies in their value statements and then to correct them. A lifetime of building a good reputation can be ruined by one small lapse of judgment let your values be your guide.

PREFACE
Business leaders fail to achieve long-term success when they dont apply the same set of values internally as they project to their external audience.
This book is for you if
you long for less stress and more freedom to be yourself
you want to make a lasting impact in addition to your profits
you wish you could know for sure that youre making the right decision every time.
This book is probably NOT for you if

you enjoy inspiring contempt among your teammates or employees
you primarily just want to make money.
In One Face, you will learn how to
discover and articulate your values
make decisions focused on longevity
embrace the gift of feedback and transform it into growth.
At the end of One Face, you will possess a clearly defined set of core values, a four-step framework for wise decision-making, and the tools you need to build your brand to last a lifetime.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First, I must thank my parents, Tom and Kathy Matthews, who raised me to value a razor sharp (some would say hyperactive) sense of the difference between right and wrong and a pathological commitment to loyalty. For more than 45 years, theyve weathered some of lifes perfect storms together and showed me what it means to live with one face.
Second, I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to my girls: Holly Aamot, Ramona Catarama, Amy Jacobs, Rachel Petersen, and Heather Shurtliff. You have been my sounding boards, my fellow wordsmiths, my comrades in the trenches, my accountability, my bosom friends. And to Kyla Steinkraus, who unofficially edited my entire manuscript before it ever went to the editor. Dearer and truer kindred spirits could not be found.
Third, Im grateful to the mentors whove lived phenomenal examples of values-driven leadership: Nicole Parker, Walter and June Burn. My undying thanks also goes to those who have modeled unmistakably arrogant and self-centered examples of how
