INTRODUCTION

I remember when I was a child, I went to visit my granny and she had this lovely neighbor who loved kids. We used to call her Granny Grace ; she made us lovely pancakes and cookies and she had these lovely flowers in her garden.
One day when we were playing peek-a-boo with her grandkids I ate one of the leaves of the plants. I think I was about two years old (or a little over 2) and after I ate the bit I continued with the game.
Fast forward to a few hours, my lips were swelling and I was itching all over. My granny took me to the hospital and I told my granny I ate the plant which was what caused the allergies.
My point is you arent different from what you eat. Ever heard the word GIGO? It means garbage in garbage out; so if you take garbage in your body will also give you garbage kind of health.
The plant-based diet is one of the best dietary lifestyle choices you can make. It is nutritious and it helps your body (and skin) look amazing. Trust me on this one.
There have been studies that state that plant-based diet helps the heart since it helps to reduce the amount of saturated fat you take in; plus it also reduces the risk of heart disease, gives you a better weight, better BMI, reduces cholesterol level, reduces blood sugar, type II diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
This is because of some foodborne illnesses, bacteria, chemical toxins and parasites that are common in non-plant based diet. You feel better and stronger on a plant-based diet because you eat more of wholesome meals and it strengthens the immune system.
Here is the story of my client who transitioned from a non-plant based diet to a strictly plant-based diet.
I grew up obese and when I was almost twelve years old, I was described as the fattest girl in my school. I watched my friends and cousins eat anything they wanted but my parents always said dont eat that and when they were not looking I just ate anything I wanted.
Somehow, this affected my self-esteem and I just relaxed in it. I worked as a programmer so I really had no reason to go out of my house and it was good for me; no bullies or anyone to call me funny names. I was happy with myself or so I thought.
My brother has a son who adored me as a child. I took him to Disney when he was much younger and some older boys snatched his milkshake. They told him they would stop bullying for the rest of their lives if he could catch them. He told them he couldnt catch them but his aunt could and they told him the game on. I was on the phone and he got my attention, I stopped the call immediately and he told me to catch them for him. With tears in my eyes, I told him I couldnt run and I still cant take away that look of disappointment he had away from my memory.
So I met this wonderful woman who introduced me to plant-based diet lifestyle and I began to take gradual steps to stick with this diet. It was challenging at first but I resolved to stick with this lifestyle. She taught me how to eat right and lose weight on this diet and lifestyle.
My only regret was that I didnt know or begin this lifestyle early enough but Im making use of all the time I have now. I wouldnt trade this lifestyle for anything. Its the best!
You have it, thats my client's story and Im sure youll also come to understand why you should love this diet once youre done.
P.S. In this book you will not only come in contact with the information and knowledge you need; you will also come across my story and the story of different clients. This is to help you know that someone has also been through your own struggle and you arent alone. If they could overcome their struggles, so can you!
Get busy reading the book and youll be glad you did at the end.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS A PLANT-BASED DIET

Plant based diet: My life, my story
The first time I vividly remember taking plant based diet was when I was middle school. There was this girl in the cheerleading team; I think her name was Sharon (Im not too sure anymore because its been almost 20 years). Everyone liked Sharon because she was brilliant and a cheer girl. She smiled at everyone who smiled at her and stood up against bullies.
There was this particular boy; his name was Billy (I remember because of the Michael Jacksons Billy jean song) and he was a bully. He bullied people but he was nice to Sharon (because he wanted her to be his girlfriend lol) but one day he bullied Sharons younger brother who was in my class. Her brother told her and she didnt believe him at first but other people also corroborated his story and told Sharon of their own story.
Sharon was furious and she didnt hide her disgust. She faced him in the hallway when almost everyone was there and she scolded him and served him a piece of his cake as she said quite a lot to him. I remember she said he was a plant diet person and if he was hungry he simply climbs trees to pluck leaves, cuts it off and then eats it off.
That was my prior knowledge of plant based diet and I was put off by it then. Stayed away from this diet completely as I didnt like the idea climbing trees to pluck leaves and eat. I took what she said literally so I hated it. I had the opportunity to get acquainted with this diet much later but I avoided it crazily.
