Introduction

First and foremost I want to thankyou for downloading this eBook , ADHD - A Mental Disorder or a Mental Advantag e and hope it serves the said purpose of educating you on the topic of ADHD.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a mental condition that can affect both children and adults. However, it is quite commonly found amongst children and something that is much prevalent amongst young American children.

Although not regarded as being a major illness, ADHD sufferers are not welcomed easily and widely believed to need help.

This type of thinking stems from the fact that most people are unaware of what ADHD is all about and what it means for a child, or an adult, to have it.

There is not much awareness owing to the fact that there are n t rallies being carried out for these children or big sign boards asking people to donate for the cause. So the condition does not get as much attention as it needs and people do n t get a chance to get to know it better.

And therefore, there are many people who do not understand all of the things that go along with ADHD and often wish to remain unaware. They assume that these kids are not normal.

They might see a child who is dealing with ADHD and think that the kid is out of control and that they are never going to make it anywhere in society. They come up with premeditated notions and do n t give these children a fair chance to prove their worth.

Most children with ADHD do not have a mental problem as they are meted out as having. They are simply restless and generally keep looking at doing many things at a time.

While these children may have difficulties in focusing on regular tasks and doing things like other children can, this does not mean that they cannot grow up to be great or be the smart in the class. In fact, they just might be the smartest kids in class and easily have an IQ level that is above the others.

This guidebook is meant to provide information on ADHD, what it is, the social implications and treatments of ADHD, and even how you can benefit from and embrace your ADHD.

There is also a segment on why ADHD might actually be good for your child and highlights the benefits of the condition in detail.

Apart from this, we also read about some natural treatments that you can consider, which are free from side effects and are a much better option to taking chemical laden medicines

I hope you find all your answers about ADHD in this book and find new respect for kids and adults suffering from the condition.

Chapter 1: What is ADHD?

My 9 year old son has ADHD and struggles every day for self-control. He is extremely intelligent and especially creative (an, out-of-the-box, thinker), with abundant energy. He cries to us frequently saying that he doesn't want to be the way that he is... he doesn't want to get in trouble for talking in class, he doesn't want to forget to turn in his homework, and he wants to be able to follow the rules. The anxiety over wanting to be the 'good' kid is heartbreaking. I tell my son every night that one day he is going to do great things in this world... - Michelle, West Palm Beach (ADHDawarenessmonth.org)

For the person who suffers from ADHD, life is like walking a tightrope of normalcy while complete chaos and disorder fill the pit below them, only one missed step away. Our society is one that often fetishists, mental illness, making martyrs out of suicide victims, creating films where the main character has drug problems and self-mutilation tendencies that are not even central to the plot and shamelessly repeating Edgar Allen Poe's, write drunk, edit sober, advice. Yet Edgar Allen Poe had ADH D among other things. The modern world admires those who are insane or unique from a distance, recalling the anecdote of Vincent Van Gogh's lost ear with a smirk on our lips. But when the person who is unapologetically differen t is the kid who was in your third grade class who just couldn't sit still , it's a different story. When we have to deal with thos e not wired like the rest of us on a regular basis, a large majority of us would rather ignore than understand. Yet obsessing over mental illness, finding fascination in those who suffer won't help anyone. The only way to make any communal progress is to stop fetishizing ADHD and start understanding what it actually is.
