Praise for Naked in Public
Naked in Public is a powerful and inspiring story that speaks to the courage that underlies recovery from childhood sexual abuse, sexual shame and sex addiction. In this memoir, Staci Sprout truly leads with vulnerability.

With this work, Staci Sprout has provided a much-needed voice for female sex addicts, who far too often are shamed into silence. Her highly personalized account of sexual addiction and the process of recovery is incredibly powerful. Sex addicts of both genders will easily identify with her story. Most importantly, Staci provides a clear example of how sex addicts, especially female sex addicts, can and do heal from this debilitating disorder. Family members of sex addicts and those who treat sex addicts will also benefit from reading this book. Highly recommended!

Naked in Public is a story that weaves together the varied and subtle strands of memory and experience that shape the development of an addict. It provides both an inspiration and a template for decoding what is most formative in our childhood, and what is most influential in finding the way out.

A page-turning, honest pilgrimage through sexual addiction to recovery. This is not your typical memoir; it reads more like a whodunit.

Disclaimer
Honesty is one of my core values. I have done my best to re-create events, locales, and conversations from personal documentation and memory, and I believe this book is an accurate recounting of my experiences in fact and, when the details were a bit fuzzy, in spirit.
However, sex is a highly personal matter. To protect the privacy of individuals mentioned in this book, I have changed names and identifying details. I respect all the individuals I chose to include in this story, regardless of the nature of our past relationship. I have included only people and experiences that seemed to significantly carry forth the story I felt deeply called to tell; one I felt could be helpful to others.
I also chose to slightly composite my therapy work, except for Margaret and Garlough, who are described as I experienced them. I saw many therapists over the years from whom I learned much, but consolidated what was said, and when. I did my best to portray accurate transformational moments in therapy as I experienced them.
When I first became serious about writing this memoir, I hired a writing coach, the warm and talented M.J. Schwader (www.inspiredlifepublications.com). M.J. asked me what kind of story I wanted to write: informational, inspirational, or transformational. I said all three, but if I had to choose, Id go for transformational. This book is intended to shake things up, in a positive way, for the purpose of sexual healing and evolution. However, it is not intended as a substitute for the advice of physicians, psychotherapists, or other professionals. Neither the author nor the publisher shall be liable for any emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, financial, or other kind of damages.
And finally, I am not a formal representative for any professional or volunteer group, 12-Step fellowship, or other organization, nor am I receiving financial or any other incentives to be a spokesperson for any outside organization, regardless of affiliation status or membership, present or past. Out of respect for the traditions of 12-Step programs, I did not use the actual names of any specific fellowships I attended as an adult. I did disclose my mothers membership in Alcoholics Anonymous, with her permission, because it was a central influence on my life and story. I did so with a firm belief that 1) what I wrote was accurate, and 2) I do not believe this record of my experiences will prove harmful to the mighty mothership of Alcoholics Anonymous, to whom I will be forever grateful for my familys recovery.
