FOREWORD
This is our purpose: To make as meaningful as possible this life that has been bestowed upon us; to live in such a way that we may be proud of ourselves; to act in such a way that some part of us lives on.
O SWALD S ENGLER , H ISTORIAN /P HILOSOPHER
For most people, the phrase money talks means wealth is power. The more you have, the easier and better your life becomes. To a certain extent, it can be true; money does solve many of lifes problems, but there is more to it than that. Sometimes money lies. Money says: Make the quest for me the most important thing in your life, and I will reward you with whatever you want.
Money may tell us that if we sacrifice our time and energy, or even friends, family, and health, money will reward us for putting it first. How many people do you know who make the accumulation of money their priority, thinking that it will lead to happiness, peace of mind and great relationships?
Rarely in life is money a place of genuine freedom, joy, or clarity; yet, we routinely allow it to dictate the terms of our lives and often to be the single most important factor in the decisions we make about work, love, family and friendship.
Over the past 40+ years I have had the opportunity to counsel with and learn from some of Americas happiest individuals and families. When I first started working with entrepreneurial families, we were focused on the money. One: How can I help you become financially secure and Two: How can I help you successfully transition your financial assets into future generationsa daunting task if you believe the statistics which say that less than 4% of family wealth survives three generations regardless of the planning that is done.
I was frustrated. I began asking new questions. What is my stewardship to my wealth and when does it end? Is this all there is? What can I do to bring more peace and meaningfulness into my life and into the life of my family and loved ones and to my clients?
From these questions emerged Empowered Wealth and the Empowered Wealth Mindset and has inspired a passionate, life long quest to empower leaders in families, in businesses and in communities. This quest has led me to work with incredible leaders around the world.
Cokie Berenyi, traveling a parallel path of understanding True Wealth, has a unique ability to take complex issues and simplify them in a way so that you, the reader, regardless of your sophistication and level of success, can not only grasp concepts for accelerating your own growth and happiness, but actually have the stepping stones to follow.
I consider the insight from this book a gift that all of us need. I commend it to you. It is important for you, those you love, and all others you influence, and to the world. I am a great believer that all progress begins with motioneven the smallest step we can take each day that moves us closer to the Perfect Day will lead us ultimately to a more perfect life.
As you absorb and put into practice the concepts and tools outlined in Perfect Day , you will be on your way to achieving success as defined by one of my mentors, the great and highly admired coach John Wooden:
Success is the peace of mind that comes from the self-assurance of knowing you have done your best to become the very best you are capable of becoming.
Perfect Day will help guide you to that success.

INTRODUCTION
How I Woke Up
W hen I was growing up, the highest aspiration for a professional was to have a cushy corporate job, get a corner office, have an expense account, andafter climbing the ladder to its highest rungsretire.
The world has changed a lot since then. Today, the notion of success is embodied in the idea of being an entrepreneurbeing your own boss. The entrepreneur is the 21st centurys cowboy. You are daring and fearless. You are a pioneer and innovator, marching to the beat of your own drum, charting your own path forward.
Because entrepreneurs are unique, your lifestyle is, too. The entrepreneurs life is unconventional and represents ultimate freedom. You are free to work from wherever you choose, whenever you choose. You can work at midnight from an airplane or from your kitchen table at noon. You can hold meetings with clients halfway around the world through videoconferencing that costs nothing, or meet with them at their neighborhood Starbucks.
The world is truly your oyster, and all you have to do is collect the pearls.
Sounds like total freedom, right?
If you are or have ever been an entrepreneur, you are probably reading through these descriptions and saying, Yeah, right. Because while many of these traits reflect the life of the entrepreneur, this is not the complete picture.
Heres the stone cold truth: being an entrepreneur is hard, probably the hardest thing someone can do. The idea of freedom is alluring, and that freedom always existsin theory. While you might not have a dragon boss breathing down your back, what threatens your freedom is the immense responsibility of running your own business.
Everything, from the biggest crises to the tiniest nuisance, suddenly becomes your problem. Moreover, youand you aloneare responsible for making sure money comes into the business, and it does so on time. You dont have to punch in or punch out of a time clock. Why? Because now that youre an entrepreneur, you feel the pressure to work twenty-four/seven. Congratulations!
