Historically, dementia has not featured highly in the training of either medical students or junior doctors. Dementia is now gaining increasing recognition as a health care issue in it's own right. The field of dementia care is transforming rapidly (), and whatever the area of health care you are involved in, you will at some point be touched by dementia. With this comes the need for all clinicians to learn about dementia. It is hoped that this book will play its part in helping clinicians understand the evolving nature of the evidence base, changes in societal expectations and the effects dementia has on the person, their family and the health service.
