Zap! experiments in electricaal currents and fields: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Zap! experiments in electricaal currents and fields" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This complete laboratory program provides beginning physics students the means to make, calibrate, and success-fully use apparatus to explore many phenomena described by Maxwells field equations. When used in conjunction with a standard text on introductory, calculus-based physics, it is designed to give students a hands-on experience in electricity and magnetism and to strength-en their understanding of the relationship between theory and experiment.

To Students
No, this is not a textbook. It is a physics book all right, though ZAP! is not a bookish word. ZAP! stands rather for a memorable experience, one among many. During the term you will put together, troubleshoot, calibrate, and use for yourself some highly capable equipment. That apparatus lets you handle matter and energy on a desktop scalecharges, currents, and fieldsin a well-controlled way, emphasized now and then by a zap! from a small capacitor, or by a quick response to an unweighably small force, or by seeing a pie tin serve as a mirror for desktop microwaves.
The book will help you build and study working experiments made from a kit of components, using more than a little improvisation. It is a guide to those experiments.
Why Hands-on?
There are several main purposes for these hands-on experiences:
Picture 3Picture 4
Abstract concepts will become more real for you, more part of the intuitive scientific understanding that you need for success in research or engineering.
Picture 5Picture 6
You will meet and become at home with the basics of electronics, today a mainstay not only of engineering and the physical sciences, but of almost every lab and shop, from doctor's office to surveyor's crew.
Picture 7Picture 8
You will begin to solve real-world problems, which are surprising, mean, and many-sided, quite unlike textbook problems. You will find yourselves becoming designers, inventors, and doers.
