Acknowledgments

Ive written four How to Do Everything books now, and have worked with just about everyone at McGraw-Hill. This book was the most special of them all, though. Everyone came together, at the same time, and with the same gusto. My Sponsoring Editor, Megg Morin, even purchased her own iPad, and we spent lots of time swapping stories and sharing our views on the latest and greatest apps. We both love iBooks; we both love Netflix. We both think watching TV on the iPad is awesome, and that Maps is the bomb. Weve both spent way too much money on movies, books, and apps, even though we could have opted for free ones, but neither of us cares. I dont normally have such a close relationship with the people I work with, and I have a feeling Megg and I will remain friends for many years to come.

To get this book to market as soon as possible, we all worked long days and long nights. Everyone was crunching numbers, and everyone was pushed to their limits with regard to how much they could do within a given window of time. The people who worked directly with me on this book include Megg Morin, Donald Bell, Meghan Riley, Patty Mon, and Rajni Pisharody, and Id like to thank them for all their hard work.

Id like to call out Donald Bell for a moment, though. I cant recall ever having a more informed technical editor. And because we were in a rush, I gave Donald permission to simply write over my words, if he felt so inclined. He did so occasionally, and I always kept the words he wrote. The man knows his iPad, theres no doubt about that, and hes not a bad writer, either.

Book writing takes a bit of family support too, and Id like to thank mine for sticking by me through the months that Im overworked, and the various times when Im not. I put in some incredibly long 12-hour days toward the end of this journey, and my family left me alone and let me be. They let me slide on Monday and Thursday night dinners and didnt complain when I spent all day Saturday or Sunday at my computer.

I miss my mom, who passed away in 2009, and the sadness was especially heavy while writing this book. I know she would have loved the iPad, and I often wanted to call her on the phone and say something like Hey Mom, you have to try iBooks! or Mom, check it out, I can see your house on Maps! She was always a bit afraid of the computer, with all its pop-ups about updating antivirus software, installing operating system updates, and the thing freezing up from time to time, and toward the end she was just too sick to even care to try. iPhones and the like were too small for her, so she never got into that either. She would have loved the iPad, though, I know it. I wish she were here for this.
