[ABOUT EAT: LOS ANGELES 2012]
THE LAST YEAR WAS A BIG ONE for EAT: Los Angeles . We sold out of books by July, became radio partners with KPCC, launched an iPhone and iPad app, added Elina Shatkin to our writing team, and generally had one hell of a good time eating and drinking our way across Los Angeles. Like countless Angelenos, we delighted in the explosion of places serving and/or making craft beer. We reveled in the juxtaposition of opposing trends: on the one hand, pork was everywhere , and on the other, vegan cooking came into its own. We told each other about our finds: a sandwich place in Highland Park, a pizzeria on Beverly, an outdoor caf in South Pasadena, a gourmet market in Brentwood, a soda fountain in Canoga Park, a Vietnamese gastropub in Alhambra, a casual wine bar Downtown, an accomplished restaurant in Malibu.
So now were sharing all those finds in this new book, which has been thoroughly updated and enriched with new discoveries. And after hearing so many of you ask us, Whats your favorite restaurant? weve added a new section called Favorites, which is basically short lists of our teams personal favorites in all sorts of areas, from brunch to beer.
This 2012 edition may be updated and improved, but it is still by no means a comprehensive guidethat would be so massive you couldnt lift it. EAT: Los Angeles is, however, a broad-ranging book, in terms of geography, cuisines and price points. Most of all, its a discerning onewe dont have every single restaurant in Koreatown, for instance, but we point you toward our favorites. Our goal is to give you interesting, thoughtful, delicious choices in every category across L.A. County. And we explore the food world far beyond restaurants, because if you like to eat, you want to know about worthwhile cheese shops, caterers, taco trucks, farmers markets and everything that has to do with living a gustatorily rewarding life in Los Angeles.
