Acknowledgments

Once again I have so many folks to thank for this totally enjoyable project. My editor Amy Lyons is a pleasure, always upbeat and encouraging, and I love her loving to hear and read about this food fabulous city. And she was amazing around Memorial Day, when I needed her most.

Special thanks to Ellis Mendon, college student and food blogger, who was invaluable with her Eugene connection and her deep appreciation and understanding of the Oregon food bounty. To Forrest Parker, who could be a great chef someday, for his help in finding some damn good eats in this town that were on and off the beaten path. I get texts from him about burgers and fries, and he is always right on. He knows his stuff. Always willing to help, Ellis and Forrest were invaluable. To Lucy Parkin, who organized and formatted me way beyond my capabilities with a smile on her face and a couple of bulldogs by her side. My students from my Food for Thought class, whom I watched get totally turned on to this whole cooking thing. Taylor Penner-Ash was the best T.A. a food lover/teacher could have; she was a delightful presence in the class, with mad cooking and copying skills! To the staff at Riverdale High School, who welcomed me with advice on how to handle hordes of teenagers and how to get in to see Michael Murray, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Paula, Sue, Sam, Michael, and Betsy, you helped me feel so good being there. Jill, Hilary, and Jodylots of laughs. Jeff Brown and PB, who gave me some great food and wine tips, and Santha who set the bar quite high before me. Gary and Mark, your humor and conversation were a joy. To Carole and Ed for coming all the way from Chicago just for my book signing and for telling me about Mean Street Pizza.

At long last I would like to give thanks to Rachel Litner from Rachel Litner Associates and Mary Rogers at Cuisinart, who have allowed me the opportunity to use all of the high-quality appliances that Cuisinart has to offer. With over 25 years of recipe testing and development I have had the best to work with, and I am deeply indebted.

To the lovely ladies at Diane Magazine, for being such pleasures to work with; Claire, Denise, and Sandy, you are the best. Karen Cicero, who for years has been an incredible source of knowledge and employment. We weathered many storms together. To Ellen and Kayo at OPB for the opportunity.

To Steve Flood and Kate for helping to make our dream come true, and to the Parkins, Pratts, Fuscos, Sanders, Micks, Penner Ashes, Men-dons, Nichols, and the girls; it is all much more fun when you do it with friends. My version of friends with benefits! To Michele Jordan, who gave me some seriously needed words. And to the Jays, the most perfect dining companions. I always get to finish what Janet orders to eat and drink!

And to my family. To my kids, Nick and Olivia, who have all these years put up with some rather strange goings-on. Ours was not the typical household, and they somehow managed to turn out pretty accomplished and lovely. Love to Mary for joining our clan. To Aunt Mousie and Freddi and David, you are always in my heart. And to Bruce... what a long, strange (and mostly wonderful) trip its been. To Eliot, a recent addition to our family, you are just the cutest. Aaron and JJ, awesome production.
