FOREWORD
Whats one thing we all feel passionately about? Color. Everyone from age two to ninety-two has an
answer to the question, Whats your favorite color? And that response changes as we do. Regardless
of whether we realize it, we are constantly thinking about colorfrom how to paint our walls to what
to wear, plant in our gardens, and apply to our lips. Color is such an important part of our lives and the
source of so much inspiration and vivid memories.
Brittany Watson Jepsens obsession with and attention to color is one of the reasons I became
such a big fan of her style in the first place, avidly following her crafting genius on her must-read blog,
The House That Lars Built.
When Brittany asked me to write the foreword for this book, I was so honored.
For me, choosing a color or colors is where I start when planning any celebration. Brittany brings this con-
nection to another level entirely. Take one glance through the photos in this book and Brittanys creativity
and sense of fun will come through, well, in living color.
In
Craft the Rainbow
, Brittany shares not only the instructive ways that color can be used, but
also so many of her own stories about color. I love that all the inspiring projects are beautiful and carefully
thought out, but also deeply personal and connected to Brittanys memories. And, of course, while reading
this book, so many of my own vibrant memories came to mind, from the distinct varied colors of the tea-
cups at my grandmothers house when I was a child, to the daisy party I threw for the first birthday of my
oldest daughter, Daisy, at a picnic that was bursting with yellow and white.
As it travels through the spectrum,
Craft the Rainbow
guides readers through creating colorful
crafts and memoriesand ultimately makes mixing, matching, and making your own color stories less
intimidating. From the rich cerulean blues of the cyanotypes to the saturated pop of orange in the Scandi-
navian-inspired garlands, the projects in
Craft the Rainbow
will show anyone who reads it a new way to
look at your favorite hues. And I love that along with being inspired to think about these vibrant colors,
we get the step-by-step instructions to make these beautiful projects.
As promised in the title, this book takes you on a journey not just over the rainbow, but through
it. Its amazing to see how Brittany experiences color through the pages of
Craft the Rainbow,
but even
more rewarding is the way this book will inspire you to tell your own color story, now and always.
