In my last three books with Amherst Media, I have always wanted to thank my Mentors Don Blair and Monte Zucker.

To me, a mentor doesnt have to do anything with photography or the business Im in. A mentor is someone who has helped you unconditionally and given support throughout your life in many different ways. My wife is one of those peoplesomeone I look up to and someone who has loved me unconditionally! She has always supported me, whatever I chose to do.

I also have been fortunate to have another special mentor I wanted to add to this dedication. His name is Bill Hurter; he was a very special friend, always trying to give his help in any way. Bill was the editor of Rangefinder magazine, but as busy as he was, he would always take time to stop and help if you needed it. Bill has now passed on but he left behind a true legacy! He was an industry leader and will be missed dearly. Keep writing those books in heaven Uncle Bill!

B ecause I teach all over the world, I am lucky to be able to listen and talk to many photographersboth experienced pros and newbies.

In all my conversations, I always get the same questions! Like:

Picture 12Picture 13 How do you get your exposures so right on the money?

Picture 14Im not comfortable with posing Do you have any tips Whats the best - photo 15 Im not comfortable with posing. Do you have any tips?

Whats the best lighting for portraitsLED or flash The list goes on and on - photo 16Whats the best lighting for portraitsLED or flash The list goes on and on - photo 17 Whats the best lighting for portraitsLED or flash?

The list goes on and on So rather than put together another book centered on - photo 18

The list goes on and on! So rather than put together another book centered on wedding photography, I decided to do something a little more broad and write a book that answers these questions, looks and whats new in our industry (like LED lighting), and helps photographers make better decisions about what lens to use and how to set the stage for perfect portraits in the studio or on location (and, yes, I will cover weddings, too!).
