Most of the face masks in this book can be made with common ingredients found in your fridge or pantry. A few ingredients, like activated charcoal or aloe vera gel, may or may not already be in one of your cupboards, but they can be easily found at your local health food store or online. The common denominator of all the ingredients is that theyre affordable. That means its easy to experiment with different recipes to find what truly works best for your skin.
Activated Charcoal
Although activated charcoal is a trendy skincare ingredient now, there are limited studies about the benefits of charcoal for cleansing or detoxing skin. Its main known medical benefits are related to oral consumption and not topical use. But it is thought that with topical use, the charcoal draws out impurities from the skinmaking it a great ingredient if you want to reduce the appearance of pores and get rid of blackheads.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera, which can be found as a topical gel at any drugstore, is packed with beneficial ingredients including vitamins A, B12, C, and E, as well as folic acid, amino acids, and fatty acids. It speeds wound healing, aids in the development of collagen, softens skin, and acts as an antiseptic, making it great for antiaging and problem skin. Fun fact: the word
