These are the ruins of an archaic Greek temple of Apollo that was built in Corinth
around 550 B.C. It remained the foremost center of worship in that city
until 146 B.C., when Roman troops under the command of consul
Lucius Mummius Archaicus marched on Corinth.
Mummius broke up the Achaean League,
which Corinth headed at that time, destroyed the
city, and shipped its art treasures to Rome.
