This cookbook is for my momAlso by Lynn CrawfordLynn Crawfords Pitchin In I ve been cooking for years! I love what I do and cant imagine doing anything else. I love food so much, its kind of a wonderful obsession. When I first started cooking I never imagined that it would totally take over my life, but in a good way! I wake up every morning and its all about food and cooking, every day. Whats wrong with that? Absolutely nothing! I have worked at so many incredible restaurants and with so many wonderful, inspiring, and talented chefs who have always been driven to cook with all their heart and passion.
I have always surrounded myself with people who love food. This is when I feel most at home. And, nothing beats cooking in my own home kitchen. This cookbook is all about home. Its personal, fun, and filled with the people Ive known, the places Ive lived, worked, and visited, and of course, the food that I love to cook at home. I wanted to share some of my favorite recipes with you.
I didnt want to over-complicate any of them. These are chef-inspired easy recipes, recipes that I regularly cook at home with influences from my mother and friends. When I look back at my career, Im amazed that Ive learned so much. My love for food has taken me across the globe, and at each destination, with every experience, I have grown as a chef. I am very lucky to have had so many incredible experiences. Ive included lots of recipes in this book that were inspired by my travels that I now love to cook at home Food and cooking should be a fun and enjoyable occasion any time and any place! Its weekend brunches with friends, late night snacks and fancy cocktails, breakfasts that are more than just oatmeal, late lunches with a bottle of wine, dinner parties with lots of laughter, farmers markets with too much to choose from, summer barbecues, winter stews and warm buttered biscuits, roast chicken with garlic and thyme, homemade jams, and butterscotch pudding.
Food and cooking is how I remember. Its names and faces, conversa-tions and stories, the cities in which Ive lived and visited, the seasons, the ingredients, the events. For me, all great memories are food memories, and my memories go back years. Peeling potatoes after school, Dads Scottish breakfast on Christmas morning, Moms split pea soup simmering on the stove, always a cup of tea after dinner, a road trip to find chocolate dipped ice cream cones and grape Mr. Mistys, lima beans hidden in glasses of milk, pizza parties, dinner parties and polishing silverware, just picked tomatoes sitting on the kitchen ledge, gravy sipped from a measuring cup, dinners made and shared with family, friends and friends families. Beautiful food and always lots of laughter.
Its so special to be able to celebrate these moments in this cookbook. Food and cooking are about making and telling stories and what Im most drawn to. Ingredients tell stories about land and local histories, farming, fishing, and harvesting. Recipes embellish these stories through tastes, smells, and presentations. Its so important for us all to be able to tell stories with and through food. I hope that this cookbook does all these things and also inspires you to do the same.
Most important, I want people to cook! Cook, eat, and share delicious food thats unpretentious and easy to make. For me food and cooking is all about sharing. I hope you enjoy all
of these recipes and just
remember to keep on
cooking with lots
of heart and laughs! Every morning I start my day with a
