Anna Chesner is a dramatherapist, psychodramatist and group analytic psychotherapist with a background in drama and drama teaching. She spent five years as a dramatherapist and psychodramatist attached to Surrey Heartlands NHS Trust and has also worked within the prison service, in adolescent psychiatry and with the elderly. She worked for two years in Munich, specializing in work with young people and couples, and where she ran the improvisation-based playback theatre company Augenblick. She has been involved in the training and supervision of therapists for a number of years in England, India and Munich, and is now based in London.
Her previous publications include Dramatherapy for People with Learning Disabilities, A World of Difference, Jessica Kingsley, 1995; 'Psychodrama and Dramatherapy: Similarities and Differences' and 'An intergrated model of dramatherapy and its application with adults with learning disabilities', in Jennings S, Cattanach A, Mitchell S, Chesner A & Meldrum B, The Handbook of Dramatherapy, Routledge, 1994 and 'Dramatherapie, Psychodrama und Playback Theater, drei dramatische Modalitten in der Gruppentherapie', in Kruse O (ed), Kreativitt als Ressource fr Vernderung und Wachstum, DGVT Verlag, 1997.

Introduction
This book is intended for a wide public: not only for specialist dramatherapists, but for teachers, social workers, psychologists, speech and language therapists, group leaders, care workers, community workers and volunteers who are interested in the value and process of creativity and drama, and who have the opportunity to facilitate such work with people with learning disabilities.
It can be a daunting task to embark on a new method of working, or to work with a new client group, and many a drama project launched with the best of intentions has run aground through a lack of basic guidance and appropriate structure. This book offers some basic principles of working, a variety of approaches to drama and a number of specific drama structures to be used, adapted and added to as the work gets under way.
