Praise for Master Your Diabetes
We know more about diabetes than ever in history, yet disease rates are not declining appreciably, while costs to manage the disease continue to soar. In Master Your Diabetes , Dr. Morstein draws from the best of conventional and integrative therapies to provide diabetic patients an easy-to-implement program to regain their health.
ROBB WOLF , author of Wired to Eat and The Paleo Solution
This book is as complete a compendium on diabetes management as I have ever read. What is more, it tells the truth: To be blunt, no person with T2DM should ever wind up on insulin if they follow the protocol established by an integrative physician. Type 2 diabetes is both preventable and in a majority of cases can be put into remission. This book is an ideal reference to understand how and why.
TIMOTHY NOAKES , MD, PhD, emeritus professor, University of Cape Town, South Africa; founder, The Noakes Foundation
In Master Your Diabetes , Dr. Mona Morstein covers the topic of holistic diabetes management in exceptional detail, providing real-world guidance for creating a low-carb lifestyle based on anti-inflammatory, organic, nutrient-dense foods and supportive lifestyle measures to improve blood sugar control and reduce disease risk. This comprehensive, well-written, and evidence-based book is ideal for medical and nutrition professionals, those with diabetes or prediabetes, and anyone interested in improving their overall health and vitality through healthy, low-carb living.
FRANZISKA SPRITZLER , RD, CDE

Acknowledgments
Writing this book has been a long process, with starts and stops over quite a few years. Its amazingly exciting that it is finally done.
I would like to thank all the ancestors of naturopathic medicine, over the last three hundred years, who helped form this beautiful and encompassing field of medicine, designed to create open-minded physicians who stringently believe a patient can indeed heal and achieve maximized health.
As we all know, life proceeds in curious ways, and if we take each troublesome situation, remove our egos, and learn from it, the capacity for self-growth is exponential. The very first diabetic patient I saw as a physician made me realize my significant deficiencies in treating that condition, and was the motivation for me to engage in serious study from then on, leading me to become a diabetes expert. I lost touch with that patient long ago, and I hope he is doing well.
My studies took me to the clinic of Dr. Richard Bernstein, the author of Dr. Bernsteins Diabetic Solution , the initial key book on successfully treating diabetes. Dr. Bernstein is a Type 1 diabetic patient, diabetologist, and a brilliant originator. He brought both the low-carb diet and innovative insulin dosing to diabetic patients and physicians who, like me, immediately saw the truth in his directions. Dr. Bernstein allowed me to shadow him in his Marmaroneck, New York, clinic, and was always welcoming when I called with questions throughout the years. He allowed me to quote him to promote my Insulin Intensive Seminar, and I consider myself a healthy branch off his foundational tree.
I am very thankful to Chelsea Green for accepting my book for publication. If you have read books, you have seen authors thank their editors on their acknowledgment pages. I am deeply compelled to do the exact same. My editor, Michael Metivier, has been admirably patient (and at times understandably frustrated) with me. I am endlessly grateful for him working with me, taking my manuscript, and making it so much incredibly better.
In one short, broad, and deeply heartfelt statement, I would like to thank my family, friends, colleagues, and patients for their support and encouragement over the years.
Last, I would like to offer thanks to Hashem. Viewing my life in twenty-twenty hindsight, I am sure G-d has clearly offered His invisible yet evident guidance throughout my life to get me to this point. I am thankful for the many lifelong kindnesses Hashem has bestowed upon me.
INTRODUCTION
Diabetes: Victim or Victor?
Diabetes is typically considered a progressive disease. Once diagnosed, patients tend to require more and more medicine to control glucose levels, and many eventually develop a diabetic complication. After many years of increasing disability, they suffer premature death, typically six to twelve years earlier than people without diabetes. A bleak outlook indeed, and it simply doesnt have to be that way! This book is designed to give you the information you need to become the victor in your relationship with diabetes, rather than a victim. It can empower you in the knowledge that you can fully control the condition, even reversing Type 2 diabetes, and prevent diabetes harmful effects or even reverse damage that has already occurred. The goal is for you to continue living a full, active, enjoyable, and long life.
