NCSP - The School Psychology Practicum and Internship Handbook

Diana Joyce-Beaulieu, PhD, NCSP, is a faculty member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)-approved and American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited School Psychology Program at the University of Florida. She has taught 75 graduate courses, including psychopathology, diagnosis, and behavioral/socialemotional disabilities. As a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist, she is the coordinator of the practica program and supervises practica placements across four county school districts and nine clinical sites (e.g., hospital adolescent psychiatric unit, university Americans with Disabilities Act [ADA] office for college students with disabilities, and a child forensics law clinic). Her research interests include behavioral assessment, socialemotional wellness, and implementation of multitiered systems of support (MTSS) or response-to-intervention (RtI) as applied to school behavioral intervention. Her publications include three books and numerous chapters and peer-referred articles. As coprincipal investigator, she has been awarded $830,000 in professional development grants to research school-based behavioral and mental health components of MTSS/RtI.

Eric Rossen, PhD, NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist and licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland. He has experience working in public schools as well as independent practice, and is currently the director of professional development and standards for the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Within his role, Dr. Rossen supports the implementation of NASP standards related to credentialing, graduate preparation, professional ethics, and practice. His publications include two books, numerous chapters and peer-refereed articles, and policy briefs on issues related to bullying, crisis response, school safety, trauma, and school psychological practices. He also has served as a college instructor and adjunct faculty at the University of Missouri and Prince Georges Community College in Maryland.

This book is dedicated to my mother, Caroline Ann Joyce, a woman who believed in the abilities of her children long before they could even conceptualize their own aspirations. She facilitated success by encouraging a love of reading, frequently reiterating the importance of an education, always encouraging our own unique dreams, cultivating our strengths, and ever moving us forward with optimism and compassion. She is a prodigious contributor to the opportunity I now have for a rewarding career in the field of school psychology.
