Welcome to a Lighter Life!
It has been seven years since I started the raw food diet, and I am still surprised by how much it does for me. The first things I noticed when I started eating raw were an increase in my energy level, a balanced blood sugar level, and a more settled stomach. I dropped a few pounds and my thoughts became more positive. Raw food became a big part of my life, and since then I have been a happier person and my daily living has become simpler in many ways. And now I want to share this with you!
Before I started with raw food, I had tried various diets and programs without any satisfaction or joy. When I was eighteen, I went on a diet called the metabolic cure. I wasnt a coffee drinker, but according to the diet I was supposed to start the day with a cup of coffee with sugar. By ten oclock I would be shaking, partly because of hunger, and partly because of the caffeine. For lunch, I was supposed to eat half of a grilled chicken and that was it. In retrospect, I realize how crazy that was. Today, I dont even remember why I started that regimen, but I do remember that it was twelve days of pure torture.
That and my experience with other similar programs are what led me to write this book, along with the fact that I met so many people curious about raw food since my books Raw Food and Raw Desserts came out. I hope this book will inspire you to make an enjoyable and sustainable change in your lifestyle.
By eating clean, nutritious food that is tasty and prepared in a simple fashion with organic ingredients, you can help your body get back into its natural balance. You will have an opportunity to discover exactly what it is that you need to feel good. Feeling good is also about achieving a balance in meeting all the needs in life. Sleep, exercise, thirst, hunger, and emotionsall these areas should be taken into account.
Raw food is food made from vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, sprouts, shoots, and sea vegetables. Honey, cold pressed oils, and superfoods are also used. In order to preserve the life energy and a maximum of nutrition, dishes are prepared by mixing rather than by heating. It is also possible to dehydrate or heat in a double boiler to a maximum of l04F(40C).
Through simple self-reflective exercises, you can become more aware of your real needs and build a solid foundation for new habits that will make you feel great.
I have put together detox programs for one, three, seven, and twenty-one days so that you can choose the plan thats right for you to cleanse and get a fresh start. To be able to follow through with the desired number of detox days, you have to have the right mindset and be patient. Its not always going to be easy, and you will have to find motivation from within. What you are doing now is something good for your body. When we do things for ourselves out of sheer love rather than just trying to get to the finish line, thats when we can really change for the better.
In this book, you will also get to know Maria and Jeanine, two women who tried my three-week program. They share their experiences with raw food and the changes it made to their lifestyles.
Before you read any further, I would like to share a thought with you. I watch childrens movies with my daughter, Saga, and some of the movies have such beautiful messages. One of our favorite movies is Tinkerbell, about a fairy who helps a little girl and her father get back together. In the movie she sprinkles her magical pixie dust over them, which enables the girl and her father to fly and see life from a different perspective. This makes me think of how a change in lifestyle gives you the opportunity to look at life in a dramatically new way. So now I would sprinkle a little pixie dust on you to propel you toward the life you really want to live!
Go raw... your way!
Erica
P.S. At the back of the book you will find a picture of a pair of bare feet in the green summer grass. The picture reminds me to take one step at a time, to be curious about how each new step feels, and at the same time to feel our magic earth safely under our feet.

What I like best about the raw detox: Taking a step back from everyday life helps me to see what works and what doesnt work in my life. Periodically detoxing and replenishing with fresh energy makes it easier for me to discover what makes me feel my best.
