BIBLE ( noun ): any book, reference work, periodical, etc., accepted as authoritative, informative, or reliable.
Where to start?
It is a question I ask myself every day.
I am a wife and mother of three.
My days are busy and fun and full of questions that need answers.
What to wear?
What to cook for breakfast?
Is your blanket my responsibility?
Do I have time to work out?
Paper or plastic?
Has anyone seen my keys?
Why is your sister crying?
What time will you be home?
Where to start?
I absolutely believe I am in the majority of people who are concerned about the environment and the state of our planet. Mother Earth has seen better days.
I also believe I am in the majority of people who want to do something, anything to help, and simply do not know where to start?
Well, good people, wonder no more.
This is what I have been waiting forsomeone to tell me what to do!
Someone to help me understand there is good plastic and bad plastic.
How can cotton be bad?
Where does my garbage go? And how can I make less of it?
I quite simply cannot list all the amazing aspects of this book you are about to read, but I can tell you this:
I love to shop, I love to cook, I love to feel I have done one thing a day to educate myself and my children in making the world a better, stronger place to live in.
Easier said than done, right?
We would all do the right thing/things if only we had the resources, the answers, the advice we need.
What can I tell you, but here it is!
Sophie is one of those rare people that to be with her is to be so caught up in the thrill of the potential of good!
Good works, good food, good ideas, good cupcakes (who knew vegan anything could be so yummy?).
Good choices for you and your family that have a light and gentle impact on our planet.
As soon as she leaves my house, I want her to come right back!
Tell me more!!!!!!
Well, here is the more .
Here is Sophie and all her vibrant knowledge for everyone to access and apply little by little to every single thing we do in the day.
Her guidance casts a wide and understanding net.
I am absolutely altered.
This Gorgeously Green book has provided my household with a bible of hope and help (not to mention a good cleansing mask and a source for eco-cashmere).
So where to start?
Congratulationsyou are already there.
Mahatma Gandhi said, Be the change you want to see in the world.
Nothing stopping you now!
Julia Roberts
I want to thank the many people who helped make this book possible:
My husband, Joe, who fanned the flame with a pair of bellows when Gorgeously Green was just a flicker of an idea, and for his continued support, strength, and love.
My daughter, Lola, for her frequent admonishments of Youre not being very Gorgeously Green, mommy! And for her six-year-old passion concerning everything that is still gorgeous about this planet. Thank you, Lola, for being my muse.
My long-suffering mother, who has spent many a late, late night listening and laughing, and my father, for his infectious optimism, humor, and boundless energy.
Genevive Lyons, who has inspired me for many years to keep on reaching for something greater.
In our many writing sessions at my kitchen table and at the Chado Tea Rooms, Lucinda Clare, who not only made me laugh and cry but also insisted that I write this book.
Mary Lynn Rapier for holding my hand throughout this whole process and for encouraging me every step of the way.
Jane and Marcus Buckingham, for being a tremendous inspiration and for providing me with their invaluable and expert advice whenever I needed it.
Brett Ollinger and Jerry Lee for getting my manuscript to the perfect person and Melinda Jason for her unbridled passion and intuition.
Joel Gotler, Scott Waxman, and Melissa Sarver, for sharing in my vision and doing such a great job in getting my book out there. Judith Regan for her enthusiasm and support of the Gorgeously Green message.
I thank Anne Cole, my editor, for stepping in at a crucial time and giving this book the attention and care that it deserves.
Kevin Small for leaping in and helping to take Gorgeously Green to the next level.
Sabine Dodane, for her talent and artistic expertise in the creation of Emerald.
And most importantly, Professor David Phillips, who woke me up to the plight of the planet and showed me how great it feels to be accountable and responsible for my each and every action.
Last, but not least, Julia Roberts, who has showered this project with humor and love. I thank her for her commitment and kindness and for being the quintessentially Gorgeously Green girl!
