In Appreciation
Although we as a family have provided the words and images for this book, it would not have been possible without help from our team members. We wish to thank Molly for hours of typing this manuscript and revising it many times. We also want to thank Shelley for spending hours searching for picture files and preparing them for use in the final book.

About the Authors
T he Wacker familys lives have been entwined with the photographic profession for over one hundred years. In the 1920s, Frank Wacker was actively working in public electrical utilities while studying to be an electrical engineer and used the additional income from doing family portraits to pay for his education. Franks son David, one of the co-authors of this book, was born at the beginning of World War II and soon became an assistant in his fathers photographic business, planting the seeds of a future career.
Although Frank discouraged Dave from going into photography, in favor of being a minister or teacher, the love of photography grew and by the time Dave was in high school he was a photographer for the school newspaper, the yearbook, and the communitys weekly newspaper. Naturally, when freshman orientation rolled around, Dave was there with his camera to cover the event-after all, it was a great chance to evaluate the incoming freshman girls and be the first to meet the best of the group. Dave spotted a pretty blonde with long flowing hair and immediately picked out his front page model. This is how he met Jean Ann, his future wife (and another of this books coauthors).
It just so happens that Jeans grandfather, Andrew, was also a photographer with a picture-postcard business established in 1906. Andrew was an accomplished artist, painter, and cabinet maker as well as photographer. Some of his work now resides in the Smithsonian Museum and an inlaid table is part of the White House furniture. Apparently, Andrews talents were passed directly on to Jean Ann. She excelled in art class and had an interest in photography. Therefore, two families rich in photographic skills were united when Dave and Jean Ann were married in 1962.
The next generation brought John David (J.D.) to the scene. J.D. (the third coauthor of this book) is said to have been born with a camera in his hands. At three, he was taking pictures with his Kodak camera. A five, he could develop his own film and make proof sheets of the pictures he took. He even made a yearbook for his kindergarten class. In high school, J.D. worked part time for a county newspaper, where he entered and won an Associated Press competition. This success spurred him on to joining the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). This association allowed him the opportunity to compete with professional photographers and earn a Master of Photography degree at the age of 21, the youngest age at which anyone has ever completed this degree. The following year, he received a BS in business and achieved the PPA Craftsman degree. He has since added the Master of Electronic Imaging degree to his list, along with hundreds of photographic awards. He has won many Kodak Gallery Awards and the top photographic award in the profession: the Kodak Gallery Elite Grand Award.

J.D. has led the industry in the development of grassroots usage of digital photography. Aided by his understanding of computers and the ability to speak to groups, he has become a sought-after instructor and speaker. He currently has a popular photographic book, published by Amherst Media, titled Master Posing Guide for Portrait Photographers on the market.
Dave, Jean, and J.D. Wacker have spoken to groups in forty-two states and five countries. Rather than being singled out as individuals they are referred to as The Family. Together, the Wacker family covers the entire gamut of professional photography, from image capture to marketing and sales. They have also co-authored a self-published digital help book called The Wackers Digital Cookbook, which is now in its fifth printing. Their easy-to-follow teaching style makes even the toughest theories and demonstrations easy to understand. They pride themselves on presenting material in a no-nonsense, nuts-and-bolts, how-to-do-it way. While always being on the cutting edge of new technology, they never forget the new photographers who are starting their businesses. The Wackers are committed to helping photographers get their lives back and start making more money right away.
