Chapter 1:
A Concise History of Astrology
The origins of astrology date back as far as the ancient Babylonian civilization, and it is most often credited with the creation of astrology. To them, when observing the heavens, astrology and astronomy went hand in hand. Originally, they believed there were five planets: Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn and Venus.
In addition to these planets, there was the sun and the moon. All seven of these heavenly bodies served a purpose. Each planet also had their own powers. For example, as Mars was red, they believed that planet was most closely associated with aggression and war. Back then, it clearly wasnt an exact science, but it was how the Babylonians were able to understand their world and the planets around them.
Approximately 2000 years later, the Greeks began to use astrology after studying Aristotle and Plato. It was then that astrology was considered a science, and it was the Greeks who took the astral language to a whole new level. They created the zodiac, which in Greek terms means circle of animals . After decades of studying the moon and the stars, early astrologers learned that it took twelve lunar cycles, or twelve months, for the sun to circle around the planets and return to its original position.
From there, we have the horoscopes. Each persons horoscope is relative to the positions of the moon, sun, planets and stars at any given point in time. Most detailed horoscopes use the location, date and time of the persons birth. Skilled astrologers are able to use the information provided to build a detailed chart with loads of details regarding personality traits, signs one is most compatible with, and predict probable future scenarios and challenges.
They can even go as deep as forecasting personal moods during certain months, depending on which planet is in which house at the time. Astrology is a wonderfully insightful science if it is done correctly.
Although there are websites that can spit out information that may seem relevant, it is mostly generalized and not tailored to anyone in particular. The best way to know all you could possible know about your complete astrological profile, is to have a professional reading by a legitimate, trained astrologer.
Astrology as an occult science has waxed and waned throughout the centuries, although today, interest in the topic is stronger than it has been in a long time. There are practitioners in nearly every country in the world, making sure that the gift that the ancients gave us still survives to this day. If it was not a proven method, it would have disappeared a long time ago. Let us now take a look at the fundamental concepts and functions of astrology
Chapter 2:
Astrology Basics - Putting It All Together
There are four parts to astrology which include the planets, the signs, the houses and the aspects. We will look at each of these individually to get a better understanding of how everything comes together when studying astrology.
For the purposes of astrology, there are still nine planets even though whether or not Pluto is actually a planet has been up for debate over the past decade. Most recently, it was deemed a dwarf planet. Regardless, astrologers would have still used the same data regarding the planets and their relevance to astrology for centuries.
Lets start with the sun and move through the planets, touching on the rules and how often it changes signs:
The sun rules your basic personality and changes between the signs on a monthly basis.
The moon rules moods and emotion. Even though the moon passes through phases throughout the month, it actually changes astrological signs every two to three days.
Mercury rules mind and ones ability to communicate. Youll see Mercury changing signs about every three to four weeks.
Next up is Venus. Naturally the planet, also named for a Roman goddess, rules love and attraction. She changes signs every four to five weeks.
Mars rules over your drive and energy and switches signs every six to seven weeks.
Jupiter presides over luck, growth and wisdom. There is a huge jump in time and Jupiter changes signs every twelve to thirteen months.
Saturn rules over discipline, challenges and fears. The planet passes through one sign every two to three years.
Uranus rules change and originality, which switches signs every seven years. Neptune is the planet for dreams and healing. It changes signs every ten to twelve years.
