The continuous increase in the complexity of modern industrial systems, as well as growing reliability demands regarding their operation and control quality, are serious challenges for further development of the theory and practice of control and technical diagnostics. Nowadays, technical diagnostics is a field of intensive scientific research and covers well-established topics, as well as emerging developments in control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, and statistics. At the same time, a growing number of applications of different fault diagnosis methods, especially in the electrical, mechanical, chemical, and medical areas is being observed. The rapidly increasing complexity of automation in the industry and the continuing need to ensure reliability and safety at the highest level require ongoing research and development of innovative fault diagnosis approaches. Furthermore, special attention is paid to fault-tolerant and self-reconfiguring control systems, which are crucial wherever maintenance or repair cannot be realized immediately.

The subject matter of the conference was replying to the expectations and demands of research and industrial centers related to modern and safe diagnostics systems, process monitoring systems, and expert systems. In general, conference topics correspond to the subject area of the IFAC symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision, and Safety for Technical Processes (SAFEPROCESS) and are extended to some issues of medical diagnostics.

The book contains selected papers presented at the 14th International Conference on Diagnostics of Processes and Systems, DPS 2020, held online in Zielona Gra, Poland, on 2123 September 2020. The conference was organized by the Institute of Control and Computation Engineering of the University of Zielona Gra in cooperation with the Warsaw and Gdask Universities of Technology. The history of the DPS conferences dates back to 1996, and has been organized every two years sequentially by the three universities (in Zielona Gra, Warsaw, and Gdask). The DPS conferences attract each time approximately 100 participants, as well as internationally recognized plenary speakers, including so far Paul Frank, Ronald J. Patton, Tadeusz Kaczorek, Jakob Stoustrup, Jan Maciejowski, Eduardo F. Camacho, Christopher Edwards, Steven Ding, Didier Theilliol, Ryszard Tadeusiewicz, Vincenc Puig, Paolo Castaldi, and Jrme Cieslak, among others.

and consists of 13 carefully selected full papers. Every submission was subjected to a thorough peer review process (2 to 3 independent reviews per paper), and only those with a consistent and strong recommendation from the reviewers have been accepted and included in the proceedings.
