Introduction
Sometimes in life, truly sucky things are sent our way.
These things can be HUGE and horrible, or they can be those smaller everyday nuisances that have added up to suck the joy out of life.
They can be older wounds from your past that have yet to heal over, rising up when you least expect and reminding you how you havent dealt with them. Or they can be recent events that life has slapped you in the face with, so youre clambering to get your grip back and find your sense of normalcy again.
When bad things happen, big or small, they can trigger any number of emotions. Depending on how you process this, your happiness could slowly but surely return, or things can quickly get out of hand. Before you know it, youre snapping at everyone, hardly feeling like yourself, and crawling out of bed exhausted every morning. If you continue to not really deal with it, the consequences begin to slowly but surely affect you in deeper ways.
Trust issues may develop.
Confidence can take a dive.
Resistance to things creeps in.
Fears emerge.
Self-sabotage can begin.

As a counselor who specializes in trauma, I have helped hundreds of people in the last 10 years to heal and overcome the things theyve experienced in the past, as well as the things they are currently facing.

Chapter 1
Ive Got Your Back
We dont exactly know each other yet.
But already I am here for you. Before I began writing this book I felt you reach out, and I wanted more than anything to help you even then. Now my words are on the page and all I want to do is wrap you up in them and assure you that you are not alone
And youre not. Not by a long shot.
You have me for support and you also have you .
Me, because Ive heard your call and helped others like you who are a bit lost, and you because you have been there from the beginning. The you that knows everything about you: your whole story, not just pieces of it. All of it, in every inextricable detail.
While Ive helped others with similar stories to heal from similar pain, and while Im here with my lifeline and this book to pull you from those stormy seas, no one knows your pain quite like you do.
So my first piece of advice to you on this journey is this
Let me be there for you. Let me help you, share with you and love you but let you be there for you too.
In order for you to get through or over this you need to be on your side. It cant just be me doing everything. It wont work well, and you know it. Now is not the time to turn on yourself.
When life sucks, you cant subscribe to the mentality of Life sucks and so do I. If you are going to make it through this, if you are going to heal and get over things, the very first thing you must do when life is working against you is to step up and be there for you .
No matter what youve been told or led to believe about yourself, the BEST person to support you through this is you .
Dont worry. I am here. You have my understanding, my love, and my unending support. But although I am here WITH you, I cannot do this FOR you.
Luckily, you were built for this.
You either simply never realized it or youve somehow forgotten, but that ability is there deep down and were going to help you fish it out and use it starting right now.
You have a wisdom inside of you that has been taking care of you for all these years. Although I know your life sucks right now and you are hurting, your wisdom is still intact. You may have stopped listening to it, or you may have never really called on it before, but it is there inside of you, nonetheless.
