Introduction
Regardless of how old we think the Dutch oven is, it doesnt negate the fact you can perform so many culinary wonders with this ancient cooking apparatus.
From deep frying to roasting, steaming, baking, and other cooking styles, there is no way that you cant use your Dutch oven to get the best meals!

Recipe 1: Barbecue Chicken and Potatoes
This is a great tasting Dutch oven dish you can make whenever you are hosting your next family barbecue. Once your family gets a taste of it, I know they will be begging you for the recipes.
Serving Size: 6 servings
Cooking Time: 1 hour
List of Ingredients:
- 3 to 4 chicken breasts
- 1, 8-ounce pack of bacon
- 5 potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 red onion, chopped
- 1 pound of butter
- 1 bottle of barbecue sauce

Procedure:
1. Preheat an outdoor grill to medium or high heat. Place the Dutch oven over the grill.
2. Place the back into the Dutch oven. Cook for 5 minutes or until crispy. Drain the excess grease.
3. Add in the chopped red onion, chicken breasts, sliced potatoes, butter and barbecue sauce. Stir well to mix.
4. Cover and cook for 45 to 50 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
5. Remove and serve immediately.
Recipe 2: Spicy Barbecue Pork
This is a perfect Dutch oven dish for you to make whenever you are craving authentic barbecue. Serve with a toping of coleslaw for the best results.
Serving Size: 12 servings
Cooking Time: 4 hours and 30 minutes
List of Ingredients:
- 1, 5 to 7-pound pork shoulder roast
- 1 teaspoon of powdered garlic
- teaspoons of salt
- teaspoons of black pepper
- 6 chipotle peppers in adobo, chopped
- 1 sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar
- 2, 12-ounce cans of Dr. Pepper
- 1 cup of barbecue sauce
- Coleslaw, for serving

Procedure:
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
2. Season the pork roast with the powdered garlic, dash of salt and black pepper. Rub the chipotle peppers over the surface. Transfer into a Dutch oven.
3. Top the pork roast off with the onion slices and sprinkle the light brown sugar over the top.
4. Pour the Dr. Pepper around the pork and cover.
5. Place into the oven to bake for 4 to 4 hours or until the meat is soft. Remove the pork roast and set aside to cool slightly.
6. Shred the pork and place back into the Dutch oven.
7. Add in the barbecue sauce and stir well to incorporate.
8. Serve immediately with the coleslaw.
Recipe 3: Hearty Lamb Stew
This is a stew dish that even the pickiest of eaters wont be able to resist for long. It is great to make on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Serving Size: 8 servings
Cooking Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes
List of Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of lamb stew meat, cut into cubes
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound of carrots, thinly sliced
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cups of low sodium chicken broth
- 1, 12-ounce bottle of Guinness stout
- 6 red potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
- 4 bay leaves
- 2 sprigs of thyme
- 2 sprigs of rosemary
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- Dash of black pepper
- cup of heavy whipping cream

Procedure:
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
2. In a Dutch oven set over medium to high heat, add in the butter and lamb meat. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes or until browned. Transfer onto a plate and set aside.
3. In the Dutch oven, add in the sliced carrots and sliced onions. Cook for 5 minutes or until soft.
4. Add in the minced garlic and continue to cook for an additional minute.
5. Add in the bottle of stout, chicken broth, cooked lamb, red potato cubes, bay leaves, sprigs of thyme and sprigs of rosemary. Season with a dash of salt and black pepper. Cover and cook for 1 to 2 hours or until the vegetables are soft.
6. Toss out the bay leaves, thyme and rosemary.
7. Add in the heavy whipping cream. Continue to cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes or until piping hot.
8. Serve.
