Deborah Wilding specializes in hand embroidery work but has always had a keen interest in all types of textiles craft. Since a very young age, she has been making and designing craft projects. Working with textiles has always been Deborahs main interest, which in recent years has led her to teaching craft skills to people of all ages and experience levels.

I would like to thank my husband Chris, and kids, Joe and Livvy, for their continued patience of the house surfaces being covered in fabrics, felt, and threads and their constant encouragement.

These designs are inspired by the Harry Potter films and include iconic images and characters known and loved by fans everywhere. The patterns have been created using simple techniques, which are suitable for the beginner as well as the more experienced crafter.

Each pattern has an indicated difficulty level: these levels will guide you through the different projects while also building your experience and knowledge. All the projects have illustrations and images showing the steps for constructing each project; helpful stitch instructions are also included. In many cases, the same techniques and stitches are used throughout, so you can hone your skills and progress at the same time.

Working with craft felt is a great introduction to sewing in general. The material can be cut easily and will not fray. Craft felt is readily available from most craft stores in a huge variety of colors and sizes.

This book is a great project for the whole family. The characters and projects also make fantastic gifts for Harry Potter fans.

To be sure you use the felt correctly, it is essential that you follow the template cutter guides supplied over these next few pages. This will give you exactly what you need to make everything from the kit.

Pin the template pieces to the felt to make the shapes easier to cut out. Using an erasable pen, plan the use of the felt by tracing around the templates of all the multiple shapes needed for that color. This way you can be sure to fit in all the different elements. With an erasable pen, any excess ink will not be seen.

When cutting out the pieces for your characters, reference the relevant indicated cutting out plan on each pattern. You can easily purchase craft felt online or from your local craft store.

Felt is often soft to work with, but bewareit is also easily distorted if you pull the material. When adding detail like fringes, make sure the cuts are not too close together, as the felt will not be strong enough to keep its shape.

When stitching felt elements together, keep your stitches small and regular to create a neat edge. But be careful not to make the stitches too small, as the edge of the felt will come apart from the rest of the fabric.
