Praise for Million Dollar Story
In these pages, ten entrepreneurs reveal their hardships, doubts, and failures to show you that no matter what you are going through right now, you will be alright. In fact, when you choose to surround yourself with courageous entrepreneurs you will clearly see your path to impact and making a difference! Ive had the privilege to mentor and inspire many to grow, to reach for a $1M business and beyond, to believe that when they take bold steps, they influence others to follow in their footsteps. Read these stories so you will know you are not alone and that you will succeed, and let them help you with their experience and skills, the way Yhennifer let me help her! Collectively we are here to change lives with the gifts weve been given, and we know you have a Million Dollar Story, too!
- Darren Little, Author, Speaker, Millionaire Mentor
Brene Brown has shown the world through her TED talks and books that being vulnerable is powerful. When you read these stories I hope one take away is to know that often the first step to breaking through is to ask for help, invest in yourself, and work with a coach who can help you identify and overcome your resistance to your own success and influence. And second is to find someone with whom you resonate who has the skill set you seek. It is my absolute honor to endorse this project and its exceptional group of collaborating authors. Let their experience, wisdom and intuition assist you with your breakthroughs. Read their stories, ones I know will inspire and uplift you, and then seek out their help as Jamie sought mine.

Being an entrepreneur on the ups is glorious, but the downs can be lonely, stressful and discouraging. So lonely, stressful and discouraging that it can cause you to rethink your business, feel like you are the only one that has ever faced this obstacle, or doubt if you have what it takes to continue. What I love about this book is that it brings together the stories of entrepreneurs just like you and me. It is not all rainbows and sunshine! You will see yourself in their journeys. You will take encouragement from their obstacles. You will realize we are not alone and {gasp} sometimes the downs are the biggest blessings.

Preface
Several years ago I attended an event called Breakthroughs to Success, hosted by my mentor and friend, Jeffery Combs. In attendance were a few dozen highly accomplished men and women. If one were to judge them based on their appearance and presence, they were exceptionally well dressed, highly poised and confident, exuding leadership in their professional roles, articulate and respectful of each other. And yet....
We were all there to break through, to uncover and tackle head on something that was holding us back from progressing to the next level. It was a safe space and an intense few days designed to break open resistance and reveal whatever we werent facing or acknowledging that was still holding power over us.
I always knew almost everyone on the planet was walking wounded but this gathering emphasized it.
Ive been conditioned to believe that those down on their luck can point to rough childhoods, poverty, addiction, broken homes, and more as causative agents. But to be surrounded by high achievers who were also affluent and then to learn their dark secrets?
My heart broke wide open to hear them share what theyd overcome, gone through, survived. It reminded me yet again to never ever assume you know the path someone has traveled and never judge because you just dont know where someone started, what may have derailed them along the way, or how damn hard theyve worked to have what they have.
Despite sudden changes in health, finances, business, relationships, and more, this group represented a much larger mass movement to overcome and give back, to face adversity or even have it force you to pivot and pursue a direction you never saw coming, and still devote yourself to making a difference and changing lives.
Remembering that weekend, and continuing to meet and listen to more and more business women and men who leave me in awe, led me to create this anthology of Million Dollar Stories, stories from entrepreneurs who faced some adversity which caused them to pivot, redirect, switch gears, even give up on a dream theyd worked hard for, only to discover that roadblock, barrier, or setback was the exact right thing.
Not to say it was pain free, easy, or without deep sadness, but it led them to new work with meaning and impact.
The following stories are powerful, transformative, and inspirational. My wish for you is that they nourish your belief, providing you with the courage to keep going in pursuit of your dreams - even if your dreams are forced in a new direction. I invite you to discover how collectively we, as these authors demonstrate, may use our unique stories to change the world in small or large measure. And if you havent yet shared your story with the world, please dont wait much longer!

See this dark spot right here? the neurologist asked in a monotone voice as he circled a portion of my three-day-old daughters MRI. That portion of your childs brain is dead.
For most of my life, I didnt want to have kids. Even at a young age, I always wanted to sit with adults instead of at the kids table. I had only one babysitting job ever and I only did it a few times. My step-sister was the one who was great with kids, not me. Even by the time I was in college, I still thought that if kids ever came into my life it would be through adoption - and an older kid at that. Babies were just not for me.
I grew up with divorced parents. I had started as an only child but by the age of 12, both my parents had remarried and I had become a middle child.
On both sides of my family, my parents had entrepreneurial spirits and they both did quite well. From the outside looking in, most people would say we were privileged, and it was mostly true. We lived in the wealthy area of town, went to school in the best district, and each of us got a new car when we turned 16, but that didnt mean that we did not value money.
My mom was always very good with her own money and taught me a lot about it as well. I had my own bank account and credit card before I even had my first job, and I learned that anything I charged to it had to get paid off before the next billing cycle.
At age 15, I had my first job as a secretary in my step-dads office. He had a collection of stores that sold all different brands of cell phones and I worked with him for almost a year before getting a job at an Orange Julius in a mall food court. While our cars were paid for, we were expected to earn money for our own gas and we had to keep our grades up.
