Rakesh Kumar Verma is a technology enthusiast and possess rich experience of more than 15 years in the Telecom / ITeS industry. During this span of his career, he has worked on Data Centre Virtualization, 2G, 3G, 4G & 5G network deployment across the globe. He keeps on learning and applying new skills. His main interest areas are, emerging technologies in Telecom / ITeS, Program & Project Management and Process improvements. Following his passion in technology and management domain, he is having PSM1, PMP, PRINCE2,ITILv3,VCP6-DCV, SSCA, and CCNA credentials to his credit. Apart from his day-to-day routine works he enjoys mentoring students and working professionals. He is actively working in career counselling area for undergrads and helping budding engineers chart out their respective career path.

Peter is an experienced, security-cleared technical consultant and has spent his career working with customers and partners designing technology solutions that deliver true business value. Throughout his career, he has had the pleasure of presenting at key IT events, such as VMworld, IP EXPO, and various VMUGs and CCUG events across the UK. He has also worked in senior presales roles and presales management roles for some of the giants of IT, such as Fujitsu, HP, Citrix, and VMware.

When it comes to the latter, Peter has been a VMware vExpert for the last eight consecutive years and a vExpert EUC for the last three years, and more recently a vExpert Desktop Hypervisor program for the last two years.

Over the past 15 years and more, Peter has focused his skills and experience by specializing in desktop and application virtualization, or digital workspace, as it is now called. This specialization gave Peter his first taste for writing books, back in 2011, when he assisted with some of the chapters in the book Building End-User Computing Solutions with VMware View. That was it, he was then hooked! To date, Peter has written and published sixteen books focussing on VMware and their digital workspace solutions.

In his spare time, he volunteers as a STEM Ambassador , coaching and mentoring young people in helping them to pursue technology-based careers.

I have a lot of people to thank for making this book a reality. The biggest and most important are my beloved parents & wife. They endured my physical and emotional absence throughout this process, at times encouraging me to keep going when I wanted to quit (did I allude to how hard it is to write a book?). Although at times it looked as if they were more pleased than not that I was locked in my office, their support is what made this project possible.

I am grateful to the excellent courses and reference documents provided by VMware. Apart from VMware official references, few online courses like Learning VMware NSX (@LinkedIn learning by Bill Ferguson), Networking and Security Architecture with VMware NSX (@Coursera by Chris McCain).

This book starts with the fundamentals of network virtualization and gradually makes progress towards the detailed explanations of the network virtuaization techniques and associated way of implementation in real time network. The author has tried his best to maintain smooth communication flow and as a result of that, each and every topic is in proper sequence. The concepts and topics have been covered in detail with the snapshots from the system itself. The key focus is to provide the learner a simple guide targeting the syllabus charted by VMware for exam #2V0-642.

The guide describes the concepts from very fundamental to an advance stage. Simplified diagrams have been added to suffice the concept wherever required and to make it easy for the reader to understand. It also provides the real time practical scenarios from day to day activities performed by an engineer working in network virtualization domain. Considering the trade-off between the vast majority of topics to be covered in the book and keep the volume manageable, author has tried to optimize the content without compromising the targeted syllabus for exam #2V0-642. Repetition of similar steps have been avoided to keep the content interesting.

The primary goal of this book is to provide a guide book to crack the prestigious certification in the field of network virtualization by VMware, i.e. exam #2V0-642. This guide book will prove to be very helpful for engineers having basic knowledge of networking and looking out to pass the mentioned exam.
