Dear Incoming Students: You are about to embark on an experience that will remain embossed on your mind for the remainder of your life. You will be challenged intellectually, your character will be tested, perseverance tried, and emotions plumbed. The significance of this endeavor is recognized by society, which is why on the other side, after graduation, you will no longer be a young adult, but welcomed as a full-fledged adult. University is not the only path there, but the best one, as exposure to the knowledge and wisdom of the world affects the mind, the character, and the soul. Good luck.Lanny Larcinese, one whos been to college and succeeded
This book is for educators, counselors, and parents of prospective college students who want to help them succeed in college by having a superior academic and social experience. Teachers and counselors will want to buy the book from their allotments to accompany presentations about college that they conduct with individuals and small and large groups. Parents, family members, and friends will want to buy the book for high school students intent on succeeding in college and beyond.
At the same time , Your College Years is also directed to students who hope to learn about what their college experience will be like and who are looking for ways to succeed throughout their college years. Parents, relatives, and friends can buy the book for high school and college students so that they can get a clear picture of the college experience in all its aspects.
Going from high school to college presents challenges even to the best and most well-adjusted students. Young people entering college need inside information about what it takes to get through college with a minimum of stress and want to learn how to navigate the system like pros. This book addresses the problems many students encounter during their freshman and subsequent years and offers them viable solutions to help them deal with the challenges theyll face.
Many college freshmen believe that they can pick up where they left off in high school and easily find friends and satisfaction taking their courses. Although some may adjust easily, most students find that it takes time and effort to learn how to balance college work, demanding professors, roommate problems, and testing situations theyve never experienced in high school.
I wrote this book to help college students learn the ins and outs of college life and how to come out on top with a winning job waiting for them in the future.
My main goal in writing this book is to give educators, counselors, and parents a springboard for discussions about colleges joys and challenges before they go to college. Students reading the book will hopefully enter college with their hearts and minds fully opened up about what to expect on this new and exciting journey. The practical and time-tested ideas in this book will send students to the head of the class and put them ahead of the game before their adventure begins.
Thanks to the following people who supplied questions and insights for and for the book as a whole: Jacquelyn Massott Campbell, Douglas Cooper, Dr. Andrew DePino, Lauren DePino, Gavin Hawk, Cole Kudgis, Shayna Kudgis, Lanny Larcinese, Joseph Spinelli, and Dr. Monica Uhlhorn.
The book is organized in eleven chapters. All the chapters relate to helping prospective and current college students make the most of their college years and guiding them in finding the right path to their lifelong careers. Although the book can stand on its own as a practical guidebook for prospective college students, it is mainly intended as a resource for educators, teachers, and counselors to assist students desiring a successful college career.
Your College Years deals with topics that help students know how to handle situations theyll encounter during their college years. It addresses settling in and making new friends. It also deals with different types of college experiences, such as living on campus versus commuting.
An important feature of the book deals with knowing where to go for help when students need it, regarding academic or mental health issues. Moreover, the book suggests helpful solutions for coping with stress. Another important feature of this book relates to making the most of class time and managing time wisely so that students live a balanced life, which is vital for good mental and physical health.
If students want to learn how to excel in taking different types of tests, this book will help them. It explains how to take and excel in objective and essay tests. A highly effective and student-friendly outlining technique will help students write superior essays every time.
Your College Years also helps students choose a major and a minor in line with their passion and discusses the importance of networking in finding the perfect job.
Each chapter contains takeaways at the chapters end so that students can review the content at a glance.
