A veteran tells his story of suffering from traumatic brain injuryand finally finding relief.
Former Green Beret Andrew Marr served multiple tours of duty in Afghanistanincurring dozens of traumatic brain injuries. It just about destroyed him and his family, and almost cost him his life.
After the military medical establishment repeatedly failed him, Marr called upon the initiative and determination that had served him as a warriorand eventually triumphed with the help of an innovative doctor. As thousands of veterans, athletes, accident victims, and other TBI sufferers wallow in the wake of inadequate treatmentand in many tragic cases, turn to suicidethis book offers new hope and explains the science behind this very specific kind of healing, and why conventional protocols fail.
Takes us from the battlefields of Afghanistan to Andrews unrelenting battle to be whole again . . . a raw reminder that even in a brain injured state, the mind can clearly triumph. Joe Rogan

Andrew Marr is a war hero and Special Forces veteran who was knocked unconscious eliminating a weapons cache in Afghanistan less then 50 meters away from him and his team while pinned down from effective enemy fire. This event and several more led to numerous documented disabilities including Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress. Returning home, he found himself on 13 medications including those for depression, insomnia, and anxiety. Andrew knew he was at a crossroads. This was the beginning of Andrews own healing. He quit tobacco, stopped drinking, came off all medication, and embraced an emotional healing that began by identifying his own personal purpose which was to serve others. He embraced a physiological approach to inflammation and neurochemical replacement rather than a pharmacological one. He made a choice that brought him into the light. All major change, he says, occurs from inspiration or desperation. For Andrew, it was both.

Inspirational with optimism and ownership of ones direction in life. Andrew Marr drew upon his pain to feed his philosophy and learned to heal himself. He sums up his thoughts with real life experiences which he shares with the reader. You will find yourself returning to , repeatedly, to maintain a life of direction and therefore quality.

Arriving at the depths of despair as a result of multiple TBIs as an Army Green Beret, Andrew Marr hit rock bottom, mentally and emotionally. Andrew and Adam Marr share their journey as brothers so others on the same path will know there are true, physiologic underlying reasons for the spiral downward and a path back to health. Their book is about hope: that its possible to determine ones own outcome, no matter how dark the future appears. If you have a loved one suffering the effects of war, read this book now. Seek the wisdom and experience from those who have been to hell and back.

Andrew Marr has written a moving, gritty, unembellished account of a long and formidable struggle. In the wake of a series of multiple traumatic brain injuries that cost him nearly everything, he found his way outand largely flying solo at that. This book may just make him even more valuable to other victims and their families than he was as a Special Forces Green Beret.

Special Operations soldiers are driven by why and how. When a challenge is presented, they search for a deep understanding of why the issue is occurring. With that understanding, they develop and test every possible how to meet a challenge. Tales from the Blast Factory exemplifies the special operations mentality to solve any problem through persistence, understanding, and teamwork. An excellent read for those searching to find solutions for those affected by traumatic brain injury.

Andrew Marr conveys clearly the connection between hormones and overcoming TBI/PTSD. Our hormones have a much stronger impact on how we think and feel than how we think and feel affects our hormones. Andrew is at the forefront of explaining why everyone with PTSD should have their hormonal profile tested as it could very well be the overlooked reason for your symptoms.

As a senior strategic and administrative operations leader, I have worked around the globe in some of the most challenging locations and environments. But almost nothing compares to the challenges Andrew has faced and overcome in his painstaking return from the brink. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has mountains to climbno matter what form they take.

This book has something to say about the treatment of our heroes and what can be done for them that isnt currently being done. Think about putting your life on the line every day. You dont, they do. Andrew Marr brilliantly tells the story of the journey of the Warrior Angel. I recommend it to those who want insight and help.

Foreword

I m neither a fatalist nor a believer in divine intervention, but I do believe in the chaos theory. Its a theory in which so many random events are going on in and around us, it becomes difficult to predict with any certainty what will happen next. This summarizes the manner in which I met Green Beret Special Forces Operator James Andrew Marr. And chaos or otherwise, it was a very good thing.
