Chapter 1-Starting Point
Recreational Vehicles provide for our need for shelter with the luxury of mobility. During vacations and other leisure activities, they serve as extensions of our homes, depending on our willingness to adapt to the surrounding and make it livable, usually with the help of our make-do and can-do attitude, and, of course, coupled with available resources. What makes these towable homes as cozy as our households is our option to decorate them into congested versions of our homes, or into the stylistic or simple haven we always dream of.
As in any other project, decorating and styling our RVs start with the basics, which in this case, would be assessing the area. A very essential thing in site assessment is the space. The space will affect the decorations to be considered. Small spaces basically mean maximizing spaces like providing bean bags, not merely for style, but for comfort as well. Corners can provide lodgings for cushioned seats you can use to accommodate guests or sit on during meals. Add a small table and you can now chill and dine.
If you have enough living space, then you can throw in a little more dcor. However, quantity does not mean quality; you can always have fewer decorations and still be in style. Minimalism is a trend we can all vouch for. With a mix and match of simple furniture and decors you have lying around at home, you can get an elegant looking space.
Considering the space in designing does not only mean estimating space for your decors, but accounting for plugs and other spaces and corners you have to maneuver around. Outlets should be easily seen and accessed, and any cables or wires should not hang lose.
The space around will also affect the coziness of the place. Imagine having all these decorations, but not having the space to actually relax and stretch those leg and arm muscles. Remember to always leave room for the people who are going to live and use the space. Your decors should be for style and comfort, otherwise it is just another space in a dollhouse you get to look at but not actually use.
Windows in the RV should also be considered. Windows mean openings, which means light and air. It can help with the heat in the RV, and can help welcome in fresh air. You would want you and your visitors to have a reasonable amount of sunlight, and air to circulate around your RV, which can help you save from air conditioning.
Although sufficient sunlight is needed for the health of our bodies and appreciating the interior design of your RV, too much can also be a nuisance. Windows in your RV should have curtains to protect you from the light, and to give you the privacy you need at night, or at any given time of the day.
If you are considering on designing the outskirts of your RV, you should also check your outside space. Consistency is something you would want to practice. The outside of your RV may say chill and dine, but the inside says otherwise. Although this could work, a perfect balance between the atmospheres you want to combine will help you achieve the overall feel you want for your RV.
Apart from the technical aspects of the design process, a vital part of execution is the visualization. Having a vision for the place or even the feel with what your RV space would eventually look like is important. It helps you see where you are directed in the project, and will help you make and take steps to get there. However, not all people with design goals already have a vision for their design and style. Fret not; whether you are already with a vision or not, this book is here to help, not only with the designs, but also with other practical tips readied.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If the RV is a communal asset for you and your family, partner, and/or friends, a consensus must be achieved in decorating. By hearing out their perspective and ideas on the design, not only can you agree on decors, but you can also hear out other fantastic design ideas you can mix and match with your own. Sore to hear as it may be, two (or more) heads is truly better than one; of course, given the understanding and respect from parties involved.
Another benefit of having another set of eyes on the job is that it entails another set of arms and legs. With other people taking part in the decision, decorating the space should be easier and faster. If you ever change your minds about the design, the redecoration would also be faster than doing the work all alone. Having people to help you with the interior and/or exterior design of your RV will help you save time and effort, given that you all get along and hear each others ideas out.
Having people help in the process also means having more information and connections when it comes to resources. Say you need to find places to do your flooring and upholstery, your family and friends can help you find the best places which you can later compare for the best services for the cheapest prices. Although this may need a little more effort, this can actually help you save significant amounts.
