Introduction
Does it feel like you've lost control of your finances? Do bills pile up unpaid? Have you been receiving those disturbing telephone calls from collectors that leave you unable to answer the phone? Or, maybe the situation isn't that dire, yet you still feel like money pours out of your hands like the proverbial sands through the hourglass. If it feels like your money is in control of you and not the other way around, then you'll find that making some of the changes outlined in Living Large on Less will come as a huge relief. You'll take a good hard look at your true financial situation, and you'll start taking steps to spend money more wisely and, therefore, make the money stretch to meet your needs.
Every major personal expense category is covered here, from housing and utilities to clothing and accessories to eating in and out, and even hobbies and vacations. In every area, you'll learn valuable tips on how to reduce how much you spend so that there will be more left over for debt repayment or savings and investments.
The concept of living large means different things to different people. Some might envision a huge home with a swimming pool in the backyard. Some might imagine a dream retirement where there's enough money to cover the basics and provide some little luxuries. I define the phrase living large as a good, balanced life with less financial worries. A large life is both fulfilling and tempered with financial responsibility. It finds a happy balance between fiscal awareness and reasonableness. And there's a healthy dose of fun in this kind of life, too!
So, come along with me on this interesting look into a life lived large a life that you'll love, and one that you can actually afford! You'll learn how to balance the necessities, activities and hobbies you love with financial accountability. Far from being a restrictive life, it's one that will free you from the slavery of debt and money worries.

Why Choose To Save?
Frugality is soright now. It's a topic discussed with flair and enthusiasm among people who not so long ago reserved such reverent tones for only brand names.
But what is frugality? A simple definition of frugality is the ability to stretch your money by not being wasteful with resources and by not spending unnecessarily. Beyond being a trend, frugality is an incredible lifestyle choice that will never go out of style. If you've picked up this book, then you're obviously looking for ways to save money without sacrificing a lot of your lifestyle. You want to be financially responsible, but not live like a pauper. Money-wise living will help you achieve that goal.
Perhaps the reason you've never delved into saving money before is because you thought I'm just not the type to be frugal! What do you envision when you think of a frugal person, anyway? Shocking! I assure you that we're not all clothed in fashions ten (or twenty) years out of date and with hair down to our belly buttons. We're also not penny-pinching misers, scowling every time we spend a nickel and certainly not willing to dole out for a good cause. In fact, someone frugal looks very much like, well, you. Look in a mirror, and voil, you see the face of frugal living today. So, rid yourself of any preconceived perception of what frugality really entails, and you may very well surprise yourself with how much you love the freedom of living within your means.
Look in a mirror, and voil, you see the face of frugal living today.
REASONS TO START SAVING NOW
To get you started on your money-saving adventures, here is a list of reasons to spend less (while still living it up, of course). Check each point that applies to you. You might discover more reasons for saving money than you'd originally thought.
To be able to make a large, important purchase, like a home.
To retire at the age you choose while still maintaining the lifestyle you enjoy.
To get out of debt.
To reduce stress. We all know debt can lead to anxiety. A healthy bank account gives you tremendous peace of mind. Plus trying to keep up with the Joneses (who may in fact only be successful on the surface) is incredibly stressful. Learning to be content makes a person a lot happier in the end.
