Chapter 1: Saving Time and Money
I n this chapter, you will learn:
- To Save Time and Money
- How to Shop
In the words of Plato, "The beginning is the most important part of the work," and living by a diet to deal with Hashimoto's is no exception. The best way to start off this diet is buying the food necessary to make the food for this diet and the only way to buy the food is to first schedule out time in order to buy that food. Nowadays everybody seems to be rushing around trying to make the most of their time. With so many responsibilities and so little time, people find it hard to find time to eat healthy and buy healthy food easily. But hopefully after reading this you will find it easier to be able to schedule out when and how you buy the right food.
So you ask yourself, how could I possibly shop for all of these food items required to live by a Hashimoto's diet? Well the answer is simple, divide and conquer. You have to realize that you can't find everything you need in one store but you can minimize the places you need to go. So, find some free time, sit down, and look up your local stores. See what they have at what places and who has it for the best price. Look out especially for any local Farmer's Markets. They offer a wide variety of healthy and fresh food at good prices. Not only that, the food is all grown locally so you know what went into growing the produce you buy there. After you have figured out what food to buy where, now comes the part where you need to find time to shop.
To maximize your shopping, plan ahead what you're going to do. Plan times for when you are going to go shopping and when you are going to go for the day. I would suggest getting a calendar and writing down the times that you are going shopping. On a weekly basis, try to go at least once a week to the store and eventually try to go up to three to four times a month. Ultimately this will allow you to always have a good supply of high-quality food for your Hashimoto's diet.
When it comes to prepping of the food, make sure to always wash all of the ingredients thoroughly to make sure that all of the toxins and chemicals are removed from the outside of the food. Also, for recipes that say they will take a certain amount of time, trying making a recipe the night before and then reheat it the next day. This will allow you to have these great recipes even if you don't have a ton of time.
Chapter 2: Getting the Right Tools for the Job
I n this chapter, you will learn:
- How to Cook Healthy
- What Tools You Will Need
Now that we have all of the food that we need and we have all the food prepped, we need to cook the food in order to turn them into delectable and delicious dishes. But this begs the question, how do you cook the food and what do you need to cook the food? There are so many different tools that are available in the culinary world, how do you pick which ones to buy for your Hashimoto's diet? Which tools are right for your trade?
There are a few tools that you'll need that will seem rather standard. You'll need regular cooking utensils such as spatulas, knives, cooking trays, wax paper, and saucepans. These you will most likely already have in your kitchen since they are standard cooking utensils. You need these to cook just about anything, let alone food for a Hashimoto's diet. But there are other tools that you need to cook some of the recipes that are down below.
There are some tools you will need that won't necessarily be in your kitchen, but can easily be found at your local store or cooking specialty store. One tool that you will need is something that is called a food processor. A food processor is similar to a blender but it is an electric motor driven appliance that usually uses little to no liquids when processing the food. They come in either an electric version or a hand crank version. The food processor is meant to do things such as slice/chop veggies, grind food and puree food.
Another tool that you could use in your kitchen is a slow cooker. Also called a Crock-Pot, this tool is a fantastic tool for someone who enjoys delicious meals but doesn't have a ton of time to cook it. By placing food in the slow cooker in the morning the slow cooker will slowly cook your food over the day, allowing you to work while your food cooks. This will also work to make your food even tastier by sealing in the flavor.
One last tool for your kitchen is an egg poacher. This tool is useful for cooking a delicious breakfast of poached egg. This device will cook the inside of the egg by simmering the liquid inside of it. This will be great for a nutritious and protein filled breakfast.
Now that you have all of the right tools for the job, it is time for you to start cooking with your tools and why not start off with some healthy but delectable appetizers?
