T he block plane is used for smoothing end grain in wood, leveling corner joints, smoothing curved cuts and easing sharp edges. It has a blade set at an angle which makes it easier to use for this purpose. The iron of the block plane is set at a lower angle with the bevel faced up and the entire tool is small enough to fit in your pocket and can be utilized with one hand.

T he try square is used to mark offcuts of wood as well as to measure what is square. There are a number of different try square designs but the most commonly recommended is the combination square. The combination square serves to mark angles, square pieces of wood and also serves as a level because of the included spirit level.

A torpedo level is one of the most recognized woodworking tools in that most homeowners have used one at some point. This tool is utilized to measure how level a project is and shows just how level something is by the moving bubble within the liquid filled tube.

A bevel gauge is a tool that is used to make angle cuts. Most woodworkers use the bevel gauge when they need to match an existing angle. Unfortunately, not many hobby woodworkers know of or make use of the bevel gauge when it can help to save a lot of time and frustration.

E ssential in anyones woodworking tool set, the handsaw is a must have for smaller projects and projects that require a little more control than you can get out of an electric power saw. Bob Villa recommends adding a crosscut handsaw, a hacksaw, a small backsaw and a coping saw to your tool shop.

H ome dcor woodworking projects are perhaps one of the most enjoyable, both because they are fun to make, but also because they are one of the easiest woodworking categories to work in! W hat You Need:

• Two 24 long Craft Wood or 14s
• Wood Stain
• Mending Plates (1/2 screws if it doesnt come with them)
• Saw tooth picture hanger
• Drill
• Miter saw

Instructions:

Take your wood pieces and find the center vertically and horizontally, marking it lightly. Using your miter saw or hand saw set a 45 degree angle and make your cuts as show in the image above.

Once you have cut the wooden pieces needed for your arrow, paint or stain the wood as you see fit and allow to dry. You can seal the paint or stain if you desire, but know that once you do you will get a shiny finish rather than a dull one.

Using your mending plates add them to the back of the arrow to keep the wooden pieces together. Once you have added the mending plates, you can add your saw tooth picture holder to allow for hanging.

W hat You Need:

• 4 inch wide pine board @ 8
• Wood joiners
• Wood glue
• Paint of your choice
• Stiff foam board
• Sawtooth hanger
• Miter Saw
• Staple Gun

Instructions:

Set your miter saw at 45 degrees and cut your wood to the dimensions in the above image.
