ANIMALS ARE THE GREATEST TEACHERS. Without being overbearing or pedantic, they seem to show us ways of progressing on our paths with kindness, strength and humor. Its only fitting that we reciprocate in kind. The Reiki healing system is perfect for this as it carries with it respectful acknowledgement of animals expansive capabilities. Masters of energetic integration, animals intuitively understand that we all exist on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels simultaneously. With this understanding, they are naturals at accepting Reiki into their lives.
Being a holistic veterinarian and healer for over 25 years, I have participated in the wave of energy healing, being privy to inexplicable and wonderful animal recoveries similar to those recounted in this book. Whether I am utilizing Chinese medicine, acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy or flower essences, I am convinced that energy medicine is both the momentum of the future and the core of tradition.
Reiki is a complete energy healing system that invites connection with the Universal Source, asking us to tap into its vast consciousness with respect and reverence. In this book, Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad take us on a Reiki journey, showing how Reiki goes to the center of a problem, considers the whole being, and gently orchestrates a healing process.
Many of my clients have told me of the miraculous help Reiki has been for their animal companions. Although I have been duly impressed, I have never formally studied the system, never making the time to take the classes. Thus I was thrilled to hear this book was coming out to explain Reiki more fully.
Animals have always assured me that using intuition (itself communication with the Universal Source) is an effective tool for treating and re-balancing health. Intuition is based upon trust, another element the animals teach. This book shows us countless examples of trust, exhibited both by the authors in their practice and their animal recipients. Each animal patient is respectfully offered Reiki and given freedom of choice for acceptance.
Intuitively I have been working with energy fields surrounding my patients bodies to diagnose and treat disorders, frequently experiencing sensations of heat, cold, texture or tingling at precisely the location of imbalance. As my palm scans specific areas above the animals body, I have been given pictures or scenes from earlier times in the animals life, or experience emotional sensations.
From this, I have learned that many of our animal companions chronic physical problems really are preceded by emotional trauma that has not been fully resolved. Recognizing the energetic existence of the imbalance is the prelude to healing. It was gratifying to read in this book that my experience is similar to what is described as Reiki, and yet it has been the animals who have taught it to me: a prime example of how healing is offered by the universe to everyone.
One cat, Chloe, came to see me. She was plagued by chronic stiffness and intermittent lameness in her hind end, ongoing for several years. Although Chloes human had been to several vets and Chloe had done all the tests, still no cause or treatment abated the problem. Acupuncture had given temporary relief, but now Chloe was miserable, not wanting to jump up or go outside.
